Default DIY half doors

Has anyone scratch built (homemade) half doors / tube doors. If so I need some help/ideas/pictures with the door latch. I can't seem to wrap my head around what kind to use and how to mount it.

yeh he had to buy all the parts and aseemble it himself. You could probably buy just a few key parts from mopar, but even then it would be exepsensive. IIRC, he spent about 1800 a door with everything from mopar.

Default why no 1/2 doors

I just cannot believe that no-one has started making the 1/2 doors yet. With all the 1000's of JK's out there, and I am sure at least 1/2 would pony up some real cash of 1/2 hard doors that looked factory. I know I would. I just can't see paying $7200 for a set of actual factory parts that I would then have to paint and assemble.

There is such a market for these right now. I know I would pay about $2500 to $3000 for a set of 4.

I think Jeep has missed a great opportunity here. I can't believe they want to charge about 1/3 of the cost of a new jeep for a set of 4 doors. This is crazy on their part. I bet they could sell sets for $3000 (painted in all the popular colors) and sell them all day long. I wanted to order a set on full and a set of 1/2 when I ordered my jeep, but they said it could not be done. They obviously have the mechanism to make them. All the molds are made. This could be a gold mine for them.

Angry where's the doors?

I keep reading promises of this, with dates and everything, but I cannot think why it is taking so long. I have read about their warrior metal door covers, but why haven't we seen it yet. Besides, the metal doors from warrior don't quite look factory. They use miss-aligned paddle handles instead of the stock handles. I will get them if they are to only option, but I hope someone comes up with the factory equivalent soon. I manufacture product in asia. I know how long things take, but COME ON!

I'm growing a beard here.

If no-one does this soon, perhaps I will have to start another business.

An individual on another forum has been teasing members there for about a year with pre-production tales of an aftermarket half door. To date, there has been no delivery.

I went through this years ago with a "sail cloth" top for a CJ. In that case the product never materialized. I suspect that side impact crash standards may be an issue here. Bestops litigation team may be the holdup. The same "excuse" was used when they refused to deliver a full "replace a top" product for TJs with hardware. Major Internet order companies eventually started to carry an expensive Mopar brand top to solve the problem.

I wonder what the factory half door skins cost? Then maybe just buy the frame or fab one up using the skin and the door opening itself as a template? I'm content with my full doors, but I find it annoying when certain things that should be available, aren't.

How can the 1/2 door for the JK be any more of a litigation risk that the 1/2 doors they already offer for other vehicles?
