No, they really aren't. And I wouldn't go with one similar to stock with just added adjustabilty. I would get something stronger. I could feel the stock one flexing over bumps through the steering wheel. There's a TeraFlex video on youtube where they demonstrate how weak the stock track bar really is.

I understand it may not be needed, but how can replacing a trackbar and centering the axles be a bad thing??

Replacing the track bar will do wonders for avoiding death wobble in the future. Center the axle and avoid continued beating of steering box and bushings. The rear is always trying to follow the front track. Imagine going through life in a constant right turn. No matter how slight. It makes a difference. I have had two 2500 ram tds. Both with leveling kits. Put adjustable track bar on second one and it never wobbled. First one did it twice!!

Replacing a trackbar will no avoid death wobble, More than likely you fixed the root cause at the same time you replaced the trackbar. Like a worn out bushing or loose bolt.
Once the axle moves up or down its no longer centered anyhow....

I've already replaced all my suspension bolts with a grade 8 kit so I'm not worried about bolt issues.

In short, no you don't have to if you don't mind your axles being off center. I just put a 2.5 lift on my 2012 JKR and I did but I'm just a little OCD. The rear axle moved about a 1/2 inch to the right and the front axle a 1/2 inch to the left. I put a bracket on the rear and a RC adjustable track bar on the front. For reference if you decide to put one on, my eye to eye length needed to be 32-9/16 " to recenter my front axle. That should give you a starting point.
