Do I need spacers with these wheels?
I am putting a 2.5" BB on an 08 unlimited X. I have found some 17x9 wheels that I like, but can only find that they have +10 offset, which according to the charts SHOULD be about 5.33" of backspacing (I haven't been able to go back and physically measure them to confirm). I think I can put 33's on with no spacers, correct? What about 35's? Thanks!

With 17X9's I think 5.33" of backspacing is too much, unless you are going to use an extremely narrow tire. I think it would probably rub at some point of turning or flexing with 33's, and definitely would not try it running 35's.
I think it is Teraflex that makes a 1" wide spacer which would work nicely with either 33's or 35's.

Dang it! The salesman knew what application I had, why would he recommend 17x9 wheels then?? Would 17x10 wheels help, or what do I need if I don't use spacers? I suppose choosing a different wheel with about 4.75" of backspacing or less, huh? Thanks for saving me a lot of headaches when I go to put them on! You guys are great!

You should be fine with 33 x 12.50" I bought a rim with 5.75" of B.S. and put 285/70/17 BFG AT on them and have more room than stock. I have never had a problem with off road rubbing. I checked and I could clear 305's or 12" wide no problem so if you have a rim with 5.33" you could clear a 12.50" wide tire. The only thing is they won't stick way out past the fenders.

Poison Spyder also sells 1.5" spacers for the JK, giving an extra 1/2" clearance if needed over the TF 1" spacers....and adapters for 4.5 to 5 on 5 and so forth too...$99/pair.

Okay, thanks. What you are saying sounds more like what the salesman must have in mind...that since my 255/75/17' s are pretty much 32's on stock 6.25" backspacing on 8" wheels, that there should be no problem with 33's and 5.33" of backspacing on 9" wide wheels. Any idea how far out past the fender they should come with this setup, probably with a 12.5" tire? Maybe the spacers would make the 35's possible, then...hmmm...bigger is better, after all!

BTW -
If the Backspacing is the same...but, on a wider rim,...its still the same BS and clearance.
Its the OFFSET that changes with rim width.
Essentially, the tire is centered on the rim...so as long as the rim's CENTER stay's still relative to the rig....the tire is going to just be half on one side, and half on the other side, of that width.
If you have a wider section width tire, THAT makes each side stick out more - like a 12.5" section width tire will have its inboard side 1/2" closer than an 11.5" section width, etc.
Changing the rim width will NOT make the tire closer to the inboard side, or the outboard side...it will merely make the rim edges closer to the section width, etc.
Changing the BS will move the tire inboard with MORE BS, and outboard with LESS BS.
Hope that helps.

Hummer rescue - maybe this will help mine are 285 or 11.25" with 5.75" BS and are about 1/4" inside of flush on the fender. If you have 12.5" wide with 5.33" they will stick out about an inch further than mine. IMO that will look better than mine and the rear tire might still tuck up inside the fender at full flex. But if you get the lift that won't matter.
Good luck post pics when you get it done.
