Default Do you HATE your horn???

I did.

Everyone in my family noticed you couldn't just tap the horn. Getting it "right" for a polite "toot" usually left a scarring and nasty blare that drew stares of contempt and offense from other motorists.

Took it apart while eyeballin the cruise control write up and with springs in hand I drove over to Sears Hardware. I spent a few $ on springs of lighter wire & went home to test, clip, adjust & enjoy my new found light pressure horn button. What a delight to be able to beep-beep rather than only being able to get it to even toot 50% of the time.

Who was this built for, Hercules?

Anyway, been done for months, no down side & I have precision horn control. Its 2010 fer cryin ot loud. How do they mess THAT up???

I have noticed the same thing.

A small write-up and some pictures would have been nice.

What more could I add? If you buy the lightest pen weight springs the horn sticks on as you test it & your neighbors come outside to ask if you are OK. They hear your explanation as you shout it over the blat of the stuck horn and turn away in disgust that they live next to a guy who would even consider re-springing his horn button. It sticks again 5 minutes later & they just look from their doorway shaking their heads and frowning...

The pics & explanation for dis & assembly are in the excellent how to for cruise control install, just add in the new lighter hardware store springs. I bought 3 different sizes & ended up using ones that I snipped to slightly longer than stock.

I admit, the stock horn was a ear sore too, I slipped in a lil Ninja 250 horn for a light weight sounding "JEEEEP-JEEEEEP!!!".

You're absolutely correct about the horn: The lack of a polite beep and the tone are both poor. To answer the above question, a manufacturer and part number, or a UPC for the correct springs would be nice.

I find yelling at people thru a PA system gets better results. However, I did take my dying goat sounding horn out and replaced it with some hooters out of a newer lincoln towncar. I love the new hooters on my JK. . .

Sorry, I did this a few months ago & tossed the spring wrappers. I was hesitant to even post as it seems kinda silly, though I am pleased I did it! Any general hardware shop will have suitable replacements though, Sears was my source.

You just pull the stockers which I believe are the same ones used in a Freightliners rear suspension, pocket them to the store & compress the closest ones in your fingers to compare. Light as air is "too" light, LOL. Skip those!!!

The ones I used were about 50% as stiff from memory. Even buying 3 times what I needed to find the right weight I spent under $3. Cheap, easy 20 minute job.
