Default Do-It-Yourself or Pay for Install? Brawler Rockers

My PSC Brawler Rockers are back from powder coating and ready for install. I've read the directions 100 times and the abundance of threads concerning the install. I think I can install them myself but the nutserts concern me. Install quote was $375 but the minute I
get a spinner on one of those nutserts it's gonna have to go in for a tac weld since I don't have the equipment. I need advice! My
technical expertise is average. I did my Brawler Lite bumper last weekend but that was just bolt on with some trimming of the frame.
Most importantly is the sense of accomplishment I get from doing these things myself but as y'all know they aren't cheap and I don't
want to screw them up. Is this one of those times I should just swallow my pride and have it installed?

Well having just installed corners with nutserts i found out it's painfull but can be done..just take your time...test fit, mark holes, center punch holes and drill a small pilot hole..then use a step bit to get it almost to the required size, then use correct drill bit(for 1/4 nutserts i think it's a 25/64 or something like that) and drill hole..then use the tool they gave you...it'd be better if you had a hd lever style riv nut tool...makes it easier on seating the certs.

I messed mine up bad...i had to drill all certs back out and go to the next larger size.. Hopefully eill get them tomorrow and try to get them on this weekend..i didn't start with a small hole and my instructions told me the wrong size drill bit. So my metal was already a tad too big..when i started torquing the screws the nuts started spinning...i was pissed to say the least..

Greetings.

You can do this yourself and save a bunch of money to use for other mods.

See the following link for tips:

You dont need to tack weld the nutserts. I strongly recommend you use an impact driver vs fiddling with a ratchet and open end with the insert tool. I did the drivers side with no problems, but after I had to learn the hard way on the passenger side.

Practice with the impact on a scrap of sheet metal, so you get a feel for how far to tighten the nutsert, because you can overtighten them.

If you choose to have someone else do this, a body shop or sheet metal shop should be able to do this for you.

Be aware that the instructions say not to drill all the way thru the second layer. I was not able to synch the nutserts down unless I drilled all the way thru. There simply isnt enough room to get the nutsert all the way into the body and compress it. You risk compression of the nutsert with the bulge occurring on the outside of the sheetmetal.

Call the techs at PSC if you have any issues. Their customer service is the best.

Good luck in whichever way you choose to go.

Bummer I relocated to San Jose, otherwise I would come down there and help you with this. Once you figure out the trick to doiing these, its not bad.

There is no way I'm drilling holes in my jeep to install these. I just don't see the need for them and really don't like the look. Just a nice set of rock guards would work for me. With that said. It's a fairly simple install as long as you has the nut setter tool. We use them in elevator control panels and every once in awhile you will get one that spins and a good tac weld will fix it. But if I were to choose I would DYI this and spend the 375 on some other cool stuff.

Well look at that people do look at my posts.... Yeah as for doing this mine was a piece of cake. It takes a while but I did all 42 holes and rivnuts with no significant issues. Remember real men drill their own holes in their Jeeps. Good luck!

mess up ruined my day.
