The Rough Country suspension lifts? I noticed their 6" lift is cheaper than a Teraflex 4" long arm. So my question is what benefits will I get from maybe having the long arm instead of the lift from Rough Country?

i would stay away from rough country. i have heard that the quality of it
isnt the best. Don't go with any lift over 4" with short arms. You will hate it if you drive it on the road and the angle of the short arms makes the suspension geometry very quarky... just my 2 cents...

TF's 4" coils will net you close to 6" of lift anyway... Go with TF

But you have no personal experience with them on any of your vehicles so your talking out of your azz. I have a 4" with short arms and it's my DD. I don't hate it. I think it rides better than stock. The quality of it has been just fine. So there, now you can post up in the next RC lift thread that "you've heard" that the quality is good!

How many of their lifts have you owned? probably none.

 

Well, I HAVE had experience with Rough Country lifts, and I KNOW that the 2 sets of springs they sent me were crap. I netted about 1.5" of lift in front and 1" in back on a brand new set of springs, when I told RC about the problem, they sent me another set that did the same thing. This was before I put bumpers on front or rear. Only became worse with the extra weight after I put the bumpers on.

Now, to your question about the 6" lift, do you have a 2 door or 4 door? One of the reasons the 6" lift is cheaper is because you get a cheaper product. If you have a 2 door, you will get 4" springs with 2" spacers to give you the 6". If their 4" springs are anything like their 2.5" springs, then you will probably only get 2" or 3" of lift from them.

If you want to go that high with a lift, go with the TeraFlex long arm kit. The LA kits give you more of a factory correct suspension geometry to give you better handling and ride quality, and not to mention more flex.

Coming from someone who actually had problems with Rough Country, go a different route.

 

Go with TeraFlex... great quality and the right price..

 

You want the control arms to be adjustable both on the lowers and uppers. That way you can set your pinion and caster. No 2 JK's setting are alike. Poly bushings tend to fail over time, as they have very little flex to them. TeraFlex's 4" kits lift the front 5.25" min on a stock Unlimited, the 6" will do about 6.25".

I back up everything said here. I did a TON of research before I purchased my lift and it came down to RC and TF who both offered 6" kits. But once you work through the advantages of the adjustable control arms, you will clearly see why the JK needs them when running a lift of that size. If cost is a factor, go with a 4" TF kit since you can always upgrade to the 6" later by replacing the coils.
