Does shocks go bad in subzero temp?
It's it's been subzero temps and windchill almost -30f here in Michigan and my JKU bounce around too much. Looks like shocks are shot. Do you guys feel the same? Does shocks freeze up and act like a solid rod? Or it's just me?
The oil in your shocks becomes much thicker(less viscus) in seriously low temps like that; therefore, the oil can't move through the valves inside the shock as easily as designed. I was recently in the mountains during a winter storm and just from temps in the 30's the shocks were stupid stiff. I cant imagine how stiff they would have been at -30. The one thing I would watch for once it warms up is to check the seals around the shafts to make sure they didn't break or crack during the extreme cold.
