Default Down sizing and re- gearing

Hey guys due to the non stop attraction my jeep receives from my local law enforcement, i'll be Down sizing my tires from 37 x 1250 r17 to 35 x 1250 r17 to enable my jeep in acquiring "road worthiness" approval from my state traffic authority. I have a 2 door jk (non rubi) front danna 30 rear danna 44, geared at 5.13. both axles have had work rear has lockers. the jeep is superchiped with cold air intake, throttle spacer and full exhaust. My question is, DO I NEED TO RE GEAR TO SAY 4.88 OR WILL 5 13 ON 35 INCH TIRES ( 6 SPEED) BALANCE WELL???

Where do you live? I can't say I would go through the trouble unless you are being harassed. Unfortunately 37's on the 2 doors look huge but honestly I would leave them. 5.13's would be steep on a six speed. I know people running 40's around here with no problems

Wouldn't mess with the gears. After downsizing if you really hate the gearing then I could consider 4.88.

So is the issue the tire size or the fenders don't cover the tire width?

I live in Sydney Australia. My state laws only allow for a 25mm increase in track width on both ends, and no more than 1200mm from road to top of headlight. These two requirements are the only two rules i'm failing. Dropping to 35's will get me just on 1200. I've been harassed by the local law one time too many. If i continue to be pulled up on the jeep, i'll be hit with a cancellation of my registration, where id have to take it to my local traffic authority to asses the jeep. You American boys rolling on 40s with a 6'' lift count your blessings. Sometimes it feels like i live in communist China!!!

Depends on the state WI you cant go over 5 inches of lift and no more than 8 inches larger than stock tires

Wow that does suck. Where I live the law is 42" from the bottom of the bumper and they don't even enforce it

I would keep the gears you have too. They shouldnt be too much for 35s, even with the manual. And you can always take them out later if you dont like em and try some 4.88's.

You never told us how much lift you have. You might be able to lose some suspention height and run a flat fender and keep the 37's. Just a thought...

Down here in Florida, I'm not exactley sure what the height / width laws are, but I see some Super duties driving down the road, that look like monster trucks. I would have thought Australia would be kinda lax on that kind of stuff, guess not.
