Default drive line questions

I just bought a d44 w/ 4.88's and an arb locker and a d30 with 30 spline shafts and arb locker in it also. Got a good deal on the two (cheaper than buying the stuff and hving it put in). The problem I have is the guy I bought them from was running aftermarket drive shafts and the pinion yoke has been changed to a u bolt style yoke. I was wondering if I could take my factory flange style yoke and put on these new axles so I can run my stock shafts until I get the cash for new shafts. I have read so much on crush sleaves and pinion bearing preload its making my head spin. Also I was wondering if this can be done multiple times as eventually I will go with aftermarket shafts. any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance

as long as the spline count is the same there should be no problem changing to the flange, although the yokes are stronger and better.

Regarding changing them multiple times, I'm not driveline expert, but I believe you are supposed to change the crush sleeve out to prevent a problem with the preload as you pointed out. However, I've taken my yokes off several times without doing so without issue. I do plan on getting that double checked when I change my gears out though from a driveline shop.

My best uneducated guess would be that it won't be a problem immediately, but could lead to long term issues if not addressed.

Yes it would work. It takes a lot of torque to crush the sleeve but if you don't get it tight tight it will loosen up and damage the pinion splines and yoke.

thanks for your help I think i'm going to hold out until I can afford new shafts. One other question though, the axles have teraflex yokes can I go with another kind of driveshaft. I believe terflex driveshafts use a 1310 u joint front and rear. somebody correct me if I'm wrong. So I should be able to use any shaft that uses a 1310 u joint right?thank again

I've reused crush sleeves so much in the past, I've lost count. It's sorta one of those things you tell people "do as I SAY, not as I DO. Although I don't recommend it, they can be reused. It's just that you will not know how much preload is on the pinion bearing (if any) unless you remove the carrier so that you can feel it as you tighten the pinion nut down.

thanks for all the replies. I'm going to do as the redneck says and just get the shafts and leave the yokes alone that way I dont cause myself more problems.
