Drive Shaft Question
If I did a 2" front and rear coil lift & an 1" body lift, would I need to replace driveshafts on my 2012 2 door?
I know that anything over 2" will need the 1310's, but I wasn't sure if a body lift affected this measurement.
Please advise - Thanks everyone!

ah.....that sounds awesome. You just saved me lots of research and a good chunk of change! Thank you again for providing information for me and the other forum members. I'll make sure and pass this info on when I see the question arise.

as mentioned, on a 2-door with 3" of lift or more, it's just a matter of time before the factory rear shaft blows. from what i have seen, most people can get about a year or 30,000 miles out of their shaft. of course, this varies considerably one way or the other depending on how much wheeling you do and how hard you wheel.
On the small island of Kodiak, there are three JK's that actually get used.
One is a 4-door on a 4" lift and 38" LTB's, stock drivelines.
Mine is a 4-door on a 4" and 35" toyos. Stock drivelines.
The third is a two door, stock height on 33's. Stock drivelines.
The factory drivelines are junk, I am not debating that fact. However, if you need to get around on them for the time being you should be fine on a two inch lift. Just keep in mind that they are a weak link, and drive accordingly.

I found out my front DS failed yesterday when I crawled underneath! GRRRR....
Couple people mentioned they removed it to avoid any further damage(which I might be doing over the weekend, just not sure how long I could, or the real question of how long I SHOULD drive without it...
Also, now I worry about the rear DS failing soon too! All this after I just bought my new LoD rear/tire carrier, ARB covers & lubelockers, and 5 37x13.50 Toyo MT's.... more and more $$$$, lol

you have an unlimited so your rear driveshaft should be fine with your lift. Unless, of course, you do what I did and proceed to drop your driveshaft onto a boulder.....
If you ever do decide to get a rear driveshaft (for whatever reason), it's not just the driveshaft you need but also upper rear arms to adjust your pinion angle otheriwse your new driveshaft will fail.
Don't you love how one simple mods causes a domino effect!!

You can drive with it removed for as long as you want. You just won't have 4wd capability. If you decide to leave it in....who knows....I know people that have gone 2 years with a torn boot but they are constantly reapplying grease. If you have no plans to wheel anytime soon or no need for 4wd, just pull it now and start saving.
The good news is that about $450 buys you everything you need for a replacement. Call David at Northridge. He sells Coast driveshafts and they come with everything in the box including spicer joints.
