Default Drive Shaft Question

If I did a 2" front and rear coil lift & an 1" body lift, would I need to replace driveshafts on my 2012 2 door?

I know that anything over 2" will need the 1310's, but I wasn't sure if a body lift affected this measurement.

Please advise - Thanks everyone!

a body lift will NOT effect your driveline angles. you will not need them for what you are planning to do.

ah.....that sounds awesome. You just saved me lots of research and a good chunk of change! Thank you again for providing information for me and the other forum members. I'll make sure and pass this info on when I see the question arise.

What are your thoughts on rear drive shaft replacement when going with a 3" suspension? (the TF in this case)?

As far as I know, you'll need it for sure on a 2 door.

as mentioned, on a 2-door with 3" of lift or more, it's just a matter of time before the factory rear shaft blows. from what i have seen, most people can get about a year or 30,000 miles out of their shaft. of course, this varies considerably one way or the other depending on how much wheeling you do and how hard you wheel.

On the small island of Kodiak, there are three JK's that actually get used.
One is a 4-door on a 4" lift and 38" LTB's, stock drivelines.
Mine is a 4-door on a 4" and 35" toyos. Stock drivelines.
The third is a two door, stock height on 33's. Stock drivelines.

The factory drivelines are junk, I am not debating that fact. However, if you need to get around on them for the time being you should be fine on a two inch lift. Just keep in mind that they are a weak link, and drive accordingly.

I found out my front DS failed yesterday when I crawled underneath! GRRRR.... Couple people mentioned they removed it to avoid any further damage(which I might be doing over the weekend, just not sure how long I could, or the real question of how long I SHOULD drive without it...

Also, now I worry about the rear DS failing soon too! All this after I just bought my new LoD rear/tire carrier, ARB covers & lubelockers, and 5 37x13.50 Toyo MT's.... more and more $$$$, lol

If you ever do decide to get a rear driveshaft (for whatever reason), it's not just the driveshaft you need but also upper rear arms to adjust your pinion angle otheriwse your new driveshaft will fail.

Don't you love how one simple mods causes a domino effect!!
Good to know my rear will be OK then. So, yea - I guess its time for a new front DS. How long can I drive with it blown? Or how long with it removed? Am I asking for MORE trouble if I run too long that way?

If you have no plans to wheel anytime soon or no need for 4wd, just pull it now and start saving.

The good news is that about $450 buys you everything you need for a replacement. Call David at Northridge. He sells Coast driveshafts and they come with everything in the box including spicer joints.
While I am aware as to the parts needed and packages available, I was unaware of the "what if" scenario's of driving with or without it. Yea, I know I wouldnt be able to use 4WD, but I'm not gonna be wheeling soon as I am in the process of making some major upgrades. So, with that being said, I'll just have it removed as it just sounds safer that way. For instance, if anything was to "worsen" down there if at all possible, and it come loose and screw a whole hell of a lot more under my rig.
