Driveshaft Broke Again!!
 

hey guys i need some help im at work and cant find this answer.....first off my jeep broke down again on sunday, it was raining out and i was in 4high i was turning out of a parking spot and i herd a loud pop!! it was my front driveshaft. it broke and the yok broke passanger side. now this is the same thing that happen to my jeep 3 months ago (fixed under warrenty) so i went back to the same dealer... i get a call today saying that it is not covered because i was in 4 wheel drive on pavement which as the service guy told me is not allowed in my jeep at all other then off road... they said nothing about my lift only that i was in 4high, is that TRUE?? were not allowed to have are jeeps in 4wheel drive at all on road weather its raining or not?? or do you think that this is shit like i do and that its just a way for the dealer to try to get out of covering it. sounds like there saying its my lift without really blaming it. the guy didnt even know what modle jeep i had, he said well you have full lockers and.... no i have no lockers!

can anyone find were in the owners manual it says no 4wheel drive at all on roads other then in snow...because he told me to learn about my jeep and read the manual :mad:

That is true, you should not use 4 wd on pavement.

Seriously though I don't have an answer for you. I will definately follow this thread to see how it works out though.

Unfortunately, yes, 4-HI on pavement is not something I would recommend especially if you have bigger tires with a wider footprint.

i think you should only put 4wd on loose ground....gravel, dirt, snow, etc...

tires can still grip the pavement pretty good even with down-pouring rain. I guess, with the added strain from having 37" tires, that can do it. I hope you can get your jeep fixed soon.....you have one of the meanest looking JK in the forum

There is still plenty of traction in the rain. You need to run on a loose surface like dirt or snow.

from manual page 266:

"The 4H and 4L positions are intended for loose,

slippery road surfaces only. Driving in the 4H and 4L
positions on dry hard surfaced roads may cause increased
tire wear and damage to the driveline components."

I dont see where it specifically says not to in rain. but it was already mentioned above so i wont repeat.

Page 267:

"4H Position

Four Wheel Drive High Range—Locks the front and rear
driveshafts together. Forces the front and rear wheels to
rotate at the same speed. Additional traction for loose,
slippery road surfaces.

NOTE:

This range should not be used during dry
pavement operation.
The “4WD Indicator Light” (located in the instrument
cluster) will illuminate when the transfer case is shifted
into the 4H position.

N (Neutral) Position"

slippery roads??? it says nothing about regular roads with rain rain makes things wet and slippery dosn't it
