On the front the actual splined part is about 6in long, so if you have 3 in, 3 out your still good. Even 3.5 out your still ok, any more than 3.5 out, not long enough. My first JEreel had 4in of spline showing, Jim reel agreed that was too much, sent it back for another. Yours looks ok. I'm not sure whathe length of the rear spline is though.

Thanks mk! There is no splines showing on the rear at all. So a general rule of thumb is the front has 6" of spline for a typical 4" lift shaft u think???

Well, you could have an aftermarket shaft for stock height, but stll have 6in of spline on it, but the total length of the shaft is shorter. Hence you would still have a couple in of spline showing.

Of the diff 2 brands that I've delt with on the front, both had the same legth of spline on it. Both had the same length of tubing the splines slide in.
As long as like I said, you have half or a small bit less or more, your good. If you only have 2in of spline engaged at rest and 4in showing, notso good. And I'm talking about actual spline, don't count the no splined dead space.

mark it, unbolt one end and pull.... or measure the tube side and compare it to how much of the shaft is showing as stated above.

The only way to know for sure is to unbolt the shaft at the diff, pull the 2 halves apart, measure, reassemble.
