Default Dropped Pitman Arm....

Well I got a new dropped pitman arm and I figured since I have a gear puller this would be a easy swap. .........NOPE........... I could not pull off the pitman off the steering box shaft for the life of me... Any ideas, tips, tricks?

I think he said he's using a gear puller. There's actually a pitman arm puller that's similar to a gear puller but has no moving parts in claw portion that attaches to the pitman arm. They're pretty cheap NAPA most likely should have one you can rent. A gear puller is not going to work easily on a pitman arm as you are finding out now.

definatly need a pitman arm puller. even with that they can be a bitch. try heat as a last resort as you might be doing a sector shaft seal. try the pitman puller(lots of greas on the threads). if it doesn't work best bet is to remove the box so you can get a good swing with a 2lb sledge hammer. load up the puller and start swinging. if you can do two things at once, swing and keep your finger on the trigger(you are using an impact gun) if that doesn't work you're not saving it so cut it off(saving it would be nice)

do you have an autozone, or advance auto parts where you are? You can get one of their loaner tools with a small deposit. You get all the cash back when you return it.

OK I have seen those! The one I am using has adjustable and reversible arms on it and it not budging that stock arm at all. I will run to the parts store after work and rent one of those. Thanks for all the info everybody!
