did you talk to Benchmark? they have the wiring available seperately from thier dual battery tray kit.

FINALLY - Dual Battery Wiring Kits - BENCHMARK DESIGNS specifically made for Optimas, comes with the battery cables too.

That's a pretty nice kit. You can get it a lot cheaper than that, too. I would go with Benchmark though as has already been stated. Very high quality and you don't have to go far for customer support.

That kit will definitely work. The 250 amp rating is just what the solenoid is rated for at continuous duty. It's probably good to 500+ for short bursts. And since you'll be running dual batteries, they'll share the load. Max amp draw for most winches is <500 amps.

Know that that kit is far from complete though, you still need all the heavy 2 gauge red & black cables and a mounting bracket.

What I sell is a 100% complete bolt-on kit that is already completely assembled and ready to install in just a few minutes. Also, the solenoid that they offer is a basic manually switched one that you have to keep track of and manage. The Benchmark kit comes with a "Smart Isolator" that has voltage sensing and auto switching so you can install the kit and forget about it.

By the time you add the cost of the parts missing from the Painless kit, you're the same or higher than what I sell, and you don't get the cool Smart Isolator, and you have to assemble everything yourself.

Details on the wiring kit:

1. The relay is rated at 250. Yes. The relay rating is it's constant amperage rating. It can handle 250A continuously. It will also have a surge rating (guessing) around 500 or 750+A. That means it can pass that much current briefly. For a few seconds. Like when you're starting.

2. The Optima can provide 750A. True. But it can't, and will VERY RARELY be required, to do that for very long.

With a dual battery setup you want to isolate the second battery when you shut down so you don't drain the starting battery. You also want the alternator to charge the second battery when it's running. Your alternator only puts out 100A.

With the way the starting battery, alternator and relay interact, the highest normal sustained current across the relay will be 100A. In an emergency if you had a dead starting battery and used the emergency parallel to start from the second battery, the current through the relay would be 400A or so but only for a few seconds.

Any isolation relay rated 100A or above would be adequate. I haven't gotten one (yet) but the Benchmark kit looks like the easiest way. If I had the need and cash that would but first on my shopping list.

I wouldnt let the instructions scare you, the install isnt bad. seriously it's not.

IMO the hardest part of the whole thing is getting that factory plastic monstrosity wrestled out of there. It really is just remove and replace.

The MORE instructions are pretty close to the same as the Benchmark ones (no surprise, both kits do essentially exactly the same thing) with the major exception of cutting the stock battery tray for the MORE kit, you do not have to do that with the Benchmark kit, it comes with a new piece to hold the airbox in place.

I like the Benchmark kit, i have no experience with the MORE kit, but i am sure both do the job. I opted for the Benchmark because i didnt have to cut anything, and the wiring/smart isolator was already done for me, i just had to spin a few wingnuts and call it a day.

Sure, what's your email?

FYI, the instructions I include are extremely comprehensive (like a picture and comment for every single step) so they take up a lot of pages, but the install is very straightforward. Usually takes most customers 1-2 hours, and nothing more than basic hand tools. No cutting like in other kits. Also, the Benchmark kit includes a heavy duty formed top clamp for zero flex, and more support structure than the other guys.
