Default Dumb question... Kind of

Im going to install a new rear bumper and tire carrier in the next few days and I curious what most people are doing when they take the stock carrier off ? Do you just re-install the bolts or is there some sort of plate that goes where the old mount was ?

x2 on reinstall the bolts. Don't need a bunch of places in your tailgate for water to enter.

There are vendors that make plates to cover up that area. But, if you are running a hard top, you will want the tailgate vent to remain unobstructed.

I left mine out because my tireswing is REALLY close to my gate. Might see if teh bolts fit but I'm not worried about water getting it because I dont every have doors or windows on.

+1 Reinstall the bolts. You'll still have the hole where the wires for the tailgate light go.. Like me...still haha. Gotta find a plug for that

Although my Shrockworks bumper came with mounting provisions for a CB antenna, I decided to keep the L-bracket I had fabbed up. That used two of the bolts for the now-gone stock tire carrier, and the RF cable runs through the stock taillight grommet on the tailgate. Although this picture is before the Shrockworks bumper, the mounting of the antenna is still the same (I did add a couple washers to shim out the L-bracket) ...
