Default Duratracs

Ok, just put my AEV 3.5 lift, AEV wheels, and 315/70/17 duratracs on. I seem to have a shimmy at 55 mph that I can't get to balance. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm running 30 psi in all 4 and had an alignment done as well. Rides great up to fifty then the shimmy starts. It will also dart to the left or right for no reason depending on the road terrain. Thanks for the help.

Shimmy in the steering wheel or vibration? Was everything on your lift kit torqued while the vehicle was on the ground?

Everything was torque after install. I have had them balanced three times now. The shimmy is in the steering wheel and in the seat. Forgot to say that it is a 2011 rubicon with 17k miles. I had no issues with the stock wheels and tires. I bought everything new as well.

I had 32" duratracs on my Tacoma. They ALWAYS had a shimmy. They are great performing tires, but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Just for example, I installed duratracs on my truck, when balancing them, the all took a metric shit ton of weight, and remember they were only 32" tires. My buddy put 33" nitto's on his f150, and put about .5 oz. on each wheel. Both of our wheels were true and strait and we both know how to properly mount and balance tires and we use professional equipment.

That's just my experience, but I had the same issue that you seem to be having.

I just installed 275/70R18 (33 or 34?) Duratracs today. Took almost no weights and run smooth as butter.

Maybe it's a hit or miss type of thing...

Same place? Ive heard some balancing machines balance better than others. I live in a farming area and all the farmers run large tires so my tire installer may be use to balancing larger tires? installed the exact same size with no issues. The tires do react differently due to being wider but you'll get used to it. I love my duratracs.

Have someone check your wheels, I had a problem with a rim that was off balance on one of my cars in the past and it would never balance right. I had to get the wheel replaced.

Same tire. No shimmy. I'd go get them rebalanced. What is your caster angle set to?
