Dynatrac 44 axles questions
Hey guys,
I have a couple of questions about some of the Dynatrac 44 axles.
1. I heard Dynatrac doesn't have a Pro Rock 44 application for the JK rear assembly. Is that true?
2. Do the Trail Series 44 have manual locking hubs as an option?
3. Are the Trail Series 44 electronic lockers essentially the same as the Rubicon stock lockers? Are they recommended for moderate off roading?
4. What is the max recommended size tires with the Trail Series 44s and Pro Rock 44s?
Are the trail series 44 less expensive than built up pro rock 44s?

2. no the manual locking hubs are only available on the 60s
3. They are the same. I have heard great things about them but I have no personal experience. Just look at all the rubicons on here that have no reported problems and like them. Hwwever they are not trouble free.. I went with ARB/
4. I was told if you do moderate/light you can do a 37 but really its designed for a 35

there is an article in jp magazine about them. the pro rocks have larger and stronger axle C's. the axle tubes are bigger and thicker then stock. so they are stronger and are less likely to bend then the stock axles.
1. there is no rear prorock 44 and there really is no need for one. install an arb and a set of 35 spline shafts and you have one hell of a 44 rear end.
2. no. by its design, the prorock 44 allows you to recycle all the factory 44 components thus allowing you to do this for less money. unfortuantely, this means you wouldn't be able to get manual locking hubs.
3. to the best of my knowledge, the e-locker is the same as factory. personally, i would opt for an ARB.
4. if i recall, the trail series 44's are essentially mopar dana 44. the prorock 44's are made from scratch by dynatrac and a hell of a lot beefier. depending on what shafts you are running, you could easily run 37's on a prorock 44 and without any issues.

yup, this is all true and more importantly, unlike a beefed up dana 30, a dana 44 will have a bigger stronger carrier and have bigger axle shafts. upgrade the shafts to chromoly and/or to something like rcv's and your axle as a whole will be MUCH stronger than any dana 30.
Thanks for the info, guys. I'm planning my build, and I'm trying to sort out information I've read about the stock axle strength and what options are available. It sounds to me like the best choice is to upgrade the front assembly to a ProRock 44 and just build up the stock rear axle. That's basically what I needed to know!

i bought the pro rock 44 had my elocker ring and pinion swapped over. i even had cromoly shafts put in. they even installed it in my jeep for 4000. i look at a dana 60. with everything i would need to install it and have a functioning locker. (ARB) i was looking at around 10000. i went with the pro rock because i only plan on running 37's and my stock 44 was badly bent. i wanted a dana 60 but saving 6 grand was very apealling.
