Default Dynomax evolution competition review. (2011)

I will start this review by saying that Dynomax is a 100% solid company.
This kit is the before the rear axle dump kit, designed for clearing lots of flex and preventing the tip from being crushed against the rear bumper (as it was on my factory exhaust)
I was looking for something to replace the factory boat anchor after it had been used as a makeshift skid plate one too many times. I had to even chop off the tip of the muffler because it had become pinched almost shut.
I will post a good video when i get a chance but its dark outside now.

The Good: 1)This kit sounds awesome . It sounds great on start up, awesome on acceleration, yet it quiets down when you are cruising. It does have a minimal drone on the highway but it still has less than 10 miles on it. On second thought calling it a drone is too harsh, its more of a purr.
2) it does what it says and totally avoids the rear axle, allowing for max flex.

The Bad: The instructions say to cut 2.5" off the intermediate pipe.
DO NOT CUT THE INTERMEDIATE PIPE
At least for a 4 door, i am very glad i mocked everything up before cutting. If you cut 2.5 inches off the intermediate pipe the rear most hanger will hang too low, exacerbating the next problem.

The Ugly: As a "high clearance off road exhaust" its kind of a fail.
A picture is worth 1000 words.

Its sort of hard to see what is going on here so let me explain. On the top is a Rock Rail/ Step Then you see the frame. And about 2 inches hanging down below that is the Dynomax muffler. As it is this is as high as i can tuck it up. If you push up on it the rubber flexes and it will go almost level with the frame, with the exception of the front of the muffler which hits a x member. I am going to put on the lift before i go off road next and see what i can do to tuck it up higher. If not i may end up returning it. But i dont want to as i love the sound.

Maybe i will just let it "self clearance" on the trail and see how it goes

I agree with the above 100%! I have been running this muffler on my 2 door for the past year and can't be happier with it. The drone will disappear after the muffler collects some exhaust dust. Muffler sounds mean when you accelerate hard and quiet when cruising as stated above. I have many friends with about every muffler you can think of (magnaflow, flowmaster, Gibson, etc) and they all agree that dynomax sounds and performs the best!

I stand by their kits and mufflers 100%!!!!

I want to do the same... I have a dynomax on my ranger and want one on my jeep...

Question... Did you guys cut the resonator off also or did you leave it on?.. I have a '12 and I was thinking to cut it all off and weld up the new... With the dump before the axle like y'all.

Just unbolted it at the y pipe. IDK about the 12 but on the 11 there is no resonator aft of the y pipe. just the muffler.

I just cut my exhaust in front of the resonator and installed this muffler in its place. I put on a short down pipe so everything dumps in front of the axle. Sounds awesome no CEL and best of all when I punch it my I can feel it through my seat. But you know it's there so if you don't like loud or want to feel your exhaust I would avoid this.

Thanks for the heads up on the noise.. Ill try it with it first and cut it if I dont.. trying to free some flow too.. Been reading about engine light troubles for some that change the muffler and cut everything off.. But then as I read, seemed like he was running open pipe but with cat. The code said EGR but who knows why it would through the light if the smog stuff was still on. Some say that the engine is back pressure tuned in the ECM?

I found a video on a flow master 40 with no resonator.. Kind of loud... I want to point out the ridiculous bend (insane pinch) to go over the axle.. Why even bother..lol

Is there any way that you can record a video for us?

Here's project-jk Dynomax Evolution that I just found.. Does your sound like this? Am I weird or should a jeep sound like a v6 muscle car? I don't mind it at all.. But 2and2 doesn't fit for me.. Yet

That exhaust doesn't have to hang down that low. I got mine to hang a tad higher than the frame (better than flush). From that same shot you posted, you can't see the muffler, downpipe or anything. You can accomplish this by using shorter rubber isolators, or even by just twisting that downpipe just so it points slightly to the outside (side) of the vehicle. This forces the hanger rod to point a bit downward, pulling the whole muffler upward when installed. I'll find that pic I took of it installed and post it. Bottom line, it can be done.

And, X2 on not cutting the intermediate pipe as instructed. So glad I did the fitting first, like you.
