Dynomax muffler question
Is the Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded Muffler part #17230, the same that is used in their rock crawler cat-back kit? I am not 100% sure if I want to make the Jeep loud, but I do want to move the muffler, so I can enlarge the storage cubby. I looked at the Woods kit, but will probably end up making my own. I haven't relocated the evap canister yet, but plan to when I install the muffler. If this isn't the same muffler, does anyone know which one is? I heard the clip of the rock crawler exhaust, and kind of like it. I figured I would get just the muffler, and have a tail pipe bent up, saving $200+ and reusing most of the stock 2.5" exhaust. Thanks.
If you go to Summit Racing, you can pick up the "Dynomax Performance 17263 - Walker Ultra Flo SS Muffler" which is the same one used in their Rockcrawler kit. I did just that, and (2) "Walker Exhaust 33240 - Walker Butt-Joint Band Clamps" and then just ended up cutting a 20" section of the exhaust pipe under my driver's seat, then removed the stock muffler.
Works like a champ. (and only cost about $95)
Took about 1/2 hour with a sawzall.

WOW, thanks. I figured I was right about the part number, but double thanks for the confirmation, and the cheaper alternative. Both mufflers are identical, except one is branded Dynomax, and the other Walker. Any regrets, problems, etc., or would you do it again? Thanks again.

Fantastic sound around the city - sliiiiight drone on the highway, but nothing bad or enough to make me wish I hadn't gone that route.
I'd do it again. (and can probably get some pics if need be.)
Good luck!
Just ordered the Walker/Dynomax muffler, along with two Dynomax band clamps from Summit Racing. $135 out the door, and that's with a $35 K&N air filter. All of that, plus the Superchips tuner, should make my stock-tired Rubi perform like a Vette!
Maybe a Vette with four flat tires, but at least others will be able to hear me on the trails. I almost bought the Dynomax "Rockcrawler" cat-back, since they're doing a $75 rebate, but figured I would save some money just doing the muffler. I think I've listened to WOL's Dynomax video a million times, and hope mine sounds something like that. Thanks again Merlin.

It came today, and I just got done installing it. I still need to get a tailpipe bent up, so it doesn't exit out over the axle, but everything went smoothly. It does have a slight drone, but perhaps that is because of where it exits? I look forward to cutting out the bottom of the hidden trunk and extending it down. I think I'll space the sway bar down when I do that, because it is going to be in the way. Anyways, I'll get some pics tomorrow, when it is light out. (I forgot to take the camera with me to the farm's shop).
Oh yeah, my Jeep got it's first taste of blood tonight, on the way to the shop. It was a 70-80 pound bambi, and the ARB made quick work of her. I was doing 45-50mph, and there is absolutely no evidence of it on the bumper. I guess that $900+ purchase is already paying for itself, since the stocker would surely have dented.
