Default Electronic Stability Issues

Hi all,

I have a 2009 2-door X. Back in November, I put a 3.5" lift and 35" tires on it. It's been doing really well until a week ago when suddenly the Jeep started fighting me every time I go around a curve. One of the Stability/Traction systems keeps kicking in and applying the brakes trying to straighten the vehicle out even though I'm going around a curve. I've tried hitting the ESP Off button, but it still does it which leads me to believe that it's one of the other systems. I'm not driving super aggressively. Exit ramps are real fun because the vehicle is doing it's best to run me into the outer guard rail. I end up having to turn the wheel significantly farther than I should plus it keeps the brakes on the whole way.

Anyone else ever experienced or heard of this? I can take it into the Jeep dealership, but I don't know if they'll do anything since it's been lifted.

Thanks!
Jason

Sounds like you need to recenter your steering wheel. If its just a bit off the system will kick in once you turn the wheel. If you have a Procal its pretty easy and quick to do. The other option is to put a piece of tape at the 12 o'clock position on your steering wheel and then loosen your drag link and adjust till the steering is centered with your wheels.

Is your steering wheel centered? If not, the ESP will think you're in a skid sometimes and it will kick in. Happens to me a lot on really long circular on-ramps.
Pushing the ESP button doesn't turn it off completely (it still works in a sort of 60/40 capacity if that makes sense). Holding the button down for 5 seconds will turn it off, but only if you travel under 40mph. Once you go over, it re-engages.
You can add a kill switch that disengages your ESP. You tap into the purple wire with light blue stripe on your ESP module underneath your center console.
You can do the steering wheel dance and turn your ESP off completely. Search the forum for the instructions (it's in your manual as well).

Thanks guys. Steering wheel was centered when I had the alignment done post-lift. It still seems pretty centered when I'm on a straightaway. I have a Procal so maybe I'll try again to double check. Possible something got bumped.

I tried walking through the instructions in the manual to disable ESP completely. Didn't seem to work. I thought maybe it automatically re-engaged when you went back to 2wd, but maybe I just did it wrong.

I would center it with the procal first. Did you re torque everything after your lift? . Few things it could be are:

Lose steering components or control arms
Busted shock
Severely mismatched tire pressure
Clock spring
Wheel speed sensor
Jeep doesn't like your music

I did change out my playlist somewhere around the same time....

Checked tire pressure as that was one of my first thoughts. Shocks are brand new. What's a clock spring?
