engine braking
has anyone done a reprogram or flash of tranny computer for some engine braking with the Auto trans.. this tranny has no engine braking going down steep off road grades even w/ 513'sand rubicon t case just not slow enough with out having to use the brakes too much
I have heard from people who say engine braking is great with low axle gears, t-case in low, auto trans in 1st or 2nd. Compare yours to another similarly equipped JK to see what's up with yours.
That's why you get the six speed. Autos are easier uphill, and manuals are better downhill. IMHO, of course (Actually, I prefer manuals for both, but I don't want to start THAT argument again)
Really? Somebody needs to tell my Jeep that. We had all kinda engine braking going through some of the north Georgia mountains. Of course it works better with the OD off, but even with it on, I had engine braking.
But, I was also hearing from people who were on really steep off road inclines, too.

Most if not all of the auto's I drive have little to no engine braking until you take it out of overdrive. They are designed that way to give you the best opportunity for good gas mileage. Think about it, do you want it to brake every time you let off the throttle? No, and the engine does not know if you are coasting of going downhill unless it is provided with a tilt switch.
So, take it out of overdrive, on really steep hills drop it down another gear or so.
