Default engine mods

Does anyone have recommendations for engine mods? My buddy already told me that I should stick with MBRP and AFE for exhaust and intake, but I would like a second opinion. Headers and a programmer would be nice too. I haven't started modifying my 08 JK and need a starting point. Thanks.

thanks for the tips man. mostly what I've heard about the available engine mods for the 3.8 are just looks and sound and not really much performance gains. from looking at multiple dyno runs, the performance increases at much higher rpms than anyone uses on or off road, so it doesn't really seem worth it. i just want to figure out what's the best way to get more power, if at all possible. once i start installing a lift with bigger tires, i'd rather not lug the motor.

what would you recommend regearing to? sometimes i wish i just sacked up and spent the money on the rubicon so regearing wouldn't be as much of a necessity. oh well.

i dont plan on doing anything too crazy. that new 2" old man emu lift seems about what i want (or a skyjacker with a similar height) and i would plan on running 32's or 33's on cragars probably. some say regearing is worth it and others say its not since the load is not going to be too much more. would i have to do anything else to the rig if i got that lift besides the tires and the gearing?

you'll only gain height with bigger tires. or else its pointless. you can run 32's and 33's without lifting.
