Engine/Performance Mods
So i go to school @ West Virginia and its pretty much all mountains (obviously) so my gas mileage is horrible at this point. What are some things i can do to my jk that will make my gas mileage go up or just perform better for where im driving daily...thanks.
When I'm driving through the western mountains of Maine, I keep it out of overdrive. That's the first and cheapest thing you can do.
Describe your Jeep. It's pretty hard to know what to do without knowing what you have.
Is yours a stock X unlimited with automatic and 3.73 gears?

Are you lifted? Running bigger tires?
Re-gearing, while expensive, will likely be the biggest improvement you can make.
i have the auto unlimited x but i have 32's w/ 17 inch wheels... i mean theres tons of things i want to do (lift, 35's, etc) but right now its not practical because im not getting good gas mileage as is so i wanna get this settled first before anything else

I'll say it since no has yet.
Its a Jeep.
It's not going to get great fuel mileage.
I would not jump to trust the computer for the mpg, if that is what you are using for your figures. It is better to compute it yourself by miles / gallons used and do it a couple of times. It will be the average of all your driving, and that to me is more realistic.
I do get better mileage from high octane fuel, but not enough to warrant the price differences.
The best thing that I did was getting the Superchips flasher. I see about a 2 mpg increase with it, and some increase in performance. Very happy with it.

around town im averaging 11-12 mpg
Your highway mileage sounds pretty average. If you won't be needing 4x4 on those long drives, pull the front drive shaft and toss it inside for the trip.
