Default Enlighten me about Hypertech and other performance tuning devices.

I am looking at a Hypertech dynamometer test result for the JK, which indicates gains over all rpms.

My question is why doesn't Jeep program to these settings from the factory?? If there are hp gains and gains in fuel economy, what is being compromised? Is it emissions?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I believe superchip is the only one that really had positive feedback.

My Query has nothing to do with which programmer is superior to the other, just why doesn't the factory program them this way from the get go??

Hypertech has had some positive feedback as well, but it's a mixed bag.

As for why the factory doesn't do the same is they tend to run more conservatively, opting for smoothness in acceleration, shifts and EPA estimate concerns. It always kind of miffs me as well, but there isn't much if any platforms that can't benefit from a programmer.

I don't think emissions are hurt. In fact, is it possible they may improve a bit. It could be everything is set as a compromise as mentioned. I wonder if it could be because the manufacturer may not take the time that aftermarket companies do to tune each vehicle to eek out everything possible.

I should have clarified, EPA fuel estimates, not emissions. Superchips I know for sure are 50 state legal for emissions holding tight on the CARB standards.

Thanks all for the info.

Compromise sounds like a good reason the factory doesn't tune like the programmers.

Am Considering the Hypertech as per the Dyno Chart, torque values look good in the 1800 to 2500 rpm ranges for good highway cruising.

Does anyone know if the electronic throttle control lag can be tuned out? I have the manual 6 spd. and it takes awhile for the RPM's to drop between shifts. I would like the throttle to cut instantly instead of lagging.

I went with the Hypertech as well and am very happy. Went with it too because they are the only ones who are actually willing to post their gains though many of the SC guys will say they don't need proof.

The SC has a few more options but I don't know anything about the throttle thing.

BTW, someone posted a few days ago about selling the SC for $288 (I think). Do a search and you might find it anbd roll the dice.

You can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it.

The butcher has spoken long and loud on this topic with over 800 posts in a single Superchips thread. There are also several people who have owned both the Hypertech and the Superchips and I have yet to see one person say they thought the Hypertech better. A manufacturers dyno tests provides me with no validation of any product as to date I have seen baseline stock numbers differentiate by as many as 30 hp at the rear wheels.

I'd much rather see some tests running a JK up a hill and some timed results. Unfortunately, my results although very positive for the Superchips were outside the realm of what Hypertech supports as far as bolt on accessories. Headers are not supported with the Hypertech leaving my tests inconclusive despite the very favorable results I had with the SC Flashpaq.
