Default Esp Killer?

Ok, so I bought a factory cruise control for my Jeep and the install included pulling the steering wheel. Well, when I pulled the wheel off, the clock spring popped apart. I was like , then I was like what do I do now? So I put it back together as best I could, verified that it worked properly, and put it all back together. After I completed, the ESP BAS lights were on. I didn't think it had anything to do with the clock spring at first but after reading about people having issues with ESP when their steering wheel is off set, it made a little sense. The reason I mention it now is that I have 37" tires and whip it around turns and cannot get any ESP to come one, cut power or anything else.
It makes me wonder if the clock spring popping apart was a blessing in disguise. Now I am just thinking of opening up the dash and removing the ESP bulbs.
Hmmm, thoughts?

What is the reason and how did it save you if you don't mind me asking? I really don't know what it's actually for so it makes me wonder.
Thanks in advance.

Not to throw rocks here but the ESP is an electronic babysitter, similar to antilock brakes. If you do something to cause your jeep to try and skid or roll it takes control and applies brake pressure to an individual wheel and/or reduces throttle to bring things back under control. While it is a good feature in many respects it only works when you have already failed to drive properly. If you know how to brake without locking them up, how to counter steer when nessesary, and mostly how not to get in those situations to begin with you won't need it. I personally am not a big fan of it but that is just my opinion.

I would get it fixed personally. It doesnt matter how great of a driver everyone thinks they are because if your going down on the freeway and the car in front of you stops and you swerve to avoid hitting it the computers going to work to prevent you from tipping or skidding muchhh faster then you can brake and steer. I agree that 99% of the time you wont need it but that 1% when your gonna need it its gonna matter. Better to err on the side of caution in my book.

I can second that.. I had a woman in a big chevy pull out in front of me, I swerved to miss and hit the shoulder it started to loose control, ended going up on the right tires and all the sudden it was like the "Higher Authority" took control and dropped the jeep back down on all fours and it all straighened out..
Extreme pucker factor... But in the end I thank that little ESP light..

Just my story..

I thought it was a good idea before I bought the Jeep but after feeling the "hand of god" intervene when I was trying to do something I wanted to do like turn real fast and slow down for starters I don't think too much of it now...

Lets just say one night you are driving about and a deer runs out to meet you. You swerve to get out of the way and drop a tire and then two onto to side of the road. A sign post is coming up fast and you quickly maneuver your Jeep back, all four wheels, onto the pavement. Esp kicks in to help you maintain control of the Jeep and not flip over in the adjacent ditch. Without the ESP you will now have to make another correction to maintain control and if you are quick and good enough you may be able to maintain control.
I have seen countless accidents when the above scenario has played out. I have not seen a single accident if the car was equipped with the ESP. ESP is the next advancement since ABS brakes. In a controlled course I can stop quicker with the ABS turned off, however in real life conditions I wouldn't be with out it. ESP is turning out to be the same thing.
Get the ESP fixed.
