Default ESP Question

So I just installed a rouch country 3.5 in lift. As I read from previous posts I already expected my ESP light to come on. And of course it did. It would flash and then I'd feel the BAS kick on and it was slow going all the way home from the place where I put it on. Then a little bell rang and the BAS / ESP light stayed on along with the little car with the swerve marks behind it stayed on but my jeep was driving normal.

I read a write up about an ESP kill switch and the post said when the switch is flipped all of the above mentioned lights will come on and all will be disabled. So my question is why did everything disable itself?? Is this bad or should I just ride it out. I still have to re-center my steering wheel so I know that should help but what else can I do if it doesn't help?

Also it's just the lift and the 35's are getting put on tomorrow so I'm not sure if that'll make a difference..

1. Is your steering perfectly centered when driving straight ahead? Most of the time the ESP light can be traced back to that. The shop should have correctly set it, but it does require actually driving the vehicle to get it perfect, and maybe they didn't take it out. It's easily accomplished yourself--ten minute job (assuming a couple attempts/drives to get it perfect).

2. Did you press the ESP switch on the lower, center console when you were having your problems? If so, that should have partially turned off your ESP, returned the vehicle to normal driving, and turned on the dash lights. It's the correct action when you're having problems with ESP (say after a trail run and you've bent something). If you press and hold the ESP switch for several seconds, even more of the ESP functionality turns off.

3. If it turns out that your lift cannot be corrected to prevent the ESP light for whatever reason, Chrysler has programmed in the steering wheel dance. It's in your manual (or a supplement if you have an earlier model that had a firmware upgrade to add the feature). Do that and it eliminates the need to press the ESP switch every time you start your vehicle.

Mine did the same thing once I installed my lift. All you have to do is make sure your steering wheel is centered. Where in Columbus do you live? I'm in Hamilton but work in Columbus, I actually grew up in Columbus.

i had the same problem with the light comming on out of the blue. but it wasn't due to a new lift. i was just driving in my back yard and it came on. i called up the dealership and they said give it a couple of days to come off. bs! so i made an appointment and they looked at it and told me it was the tires and the lift. i had my jeep about 5 months and then the light came on. so i went back the next day and they tweaked my steering just right back to center and it hasn't been on since.

Once you getting the steering wheel straight it may take a couple of miles before the lights reset

I have this issue about every 3rd off road trip

Thanks guys for your input, well just as I thought and all of you said it was my steering wheel. It took two times for me to center it just right but once it did I drove about a mile and all bells and whistles shut off. It has it turned on since and I have been jerking the wheel pretty hard to try to "make it come on"..
-Jeepaholic, I actually live in Phenix city. Where do you work, hell we've probably waved to each other.

I'm a lineman for ATT. Were trying to sale our house know so we can relocate to Smith Station. If you ever need any help just let me know. I've installed 4 suspension lifts on JK so far, 2 of them were mine the others were for friends, so I'm familiar with them.
