Default Evap Canister Removed, now what?

I relocated my evap canister off the Jeep and into the woods somewhere never to be seen again. I'm thinking I wouldn't mind keeping it that way if I can. It's throwing a code so the CEL and Gas Cap warning are both on but it is running fine. Anyone know how to fool the system into thinking everything is fine and dandy? I figured I would connect evap canister lines and try to figure out what to do with the hanging sensor wires.

it is part of your emissions control system, you need to replace it. A skid or relocate kit should be your next step.

I know what it is, I know what skids protect them and that they can be relocated. The question was what if I don't want to replace it.

You should be ok driving it like that as it is just a vent for fuel vapor. The vapor is pushed thru the charcol in the canister and the charcol removes the cfc's from the vapor and emits the spent air into the atmosphere. If the sensor is just an open/close switch, you and try to tie the 2 wires together or jumper the harness to see i the errors clear...

Here in CA it is mandatory to pass SMOG checks for emmissions laws. Idk what the laws are in your state. If its not gonna bother you to see lights and the law doesnt regulate that it needs to be there, you may not have to fix it.

Guess you will need to learn to live with the computer throwing codes at you.

The charcoal canister absorbs unburnt fuel fumes and when the engine is running the fumes are sucked in & burned. It's a GOOD emissions sytem which does NOT reduce gas mileage (in fact it improves it by burning fuel vapors that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere). It reduces hydrocarbons.

Good luck with your search.

To answer the question you asked ,no there is no way to fool the computor there are to many variables to try and duplicate to make the computor think the evap system is complete and working properly. You have two choices either live with the codes and not be able to pass etest or replace the canister .I would probably replace the canister because it doesnt effect the performance of your jeep in anyway.

The canister is about $50 shipped, but I am trying to figure what else is required since the whole thing was ripped off and I am trying to piece it together with non labeled schematics.

We don't have emissions testing but there is a state inspection and the little dinks will probably fail me for the code, I've failed for less.

all i remember having on mine when i installed my evap skid was a tube coming from the gas tank area. there wasnt much there. you could go to a jeep dealer and have the parts dept pull up the schematic of that area and you can see exactly what part numbers you need.

If past performance is an indication of future events, your probably going to throw your instrument cluster in the woods soon.
