EVO Rockstar skids question?
Hey, I read some threads on the EVO Rockstar skids for the rear lower control arms.
Getting my TF 2.5" coil lift installed Wednesday. I got the kit with the shock extension brackets. From what I've read the rockstars lift the rear shocks up about 1" or 1.5"s (forget) but the shocks have to be a certain length. So will the rockstar skids work with the stock Rubicon shocks and shock extension? Or do I just install the rockstars and leave the extensions out? Or... ????????
Can anyone shed some light on this? I ordered the lift and would like to try and order the rockstars first thing Monday in hopes of having them in time for the install on Wed.
Thanks once again!!

I installed the Rockstars after a 4" lift and longer shocks. To dial in the shock length, I checked the droop of the rear by jacking the frame. The shocks were limiting my travel even in the higher position the Rockstars moved them to (so, for my situation, the Rockstars helped).
I added spring retainers and added a spacer at the top shock mount (lowered the shock about 3/4"). At this point, the springs were limiting my travel (via the retainers) and the shocks bottomed at just about the same place.
Now, I understand your situation is different, but the moral of the story is that you can move the shock in the top mount up or down with spacers and placing the shock arm above the top mount or below it. Overall, you probably have about 2" of adjustment there, and you can use that to tune the travel.
I know of a couple of guys who needed to raise the shock after getting Rockstars, and moving the shock above the top mount worked perfectly.
Bottom line: you can make it work. The adjustability is there.

I have the TF BB and EVO RockStars. I removed the extensions, put the shock back to it's factory state and cycled the suspension on a garage lift. Without extensions, I had approx. 1/2" left on compression and expansion before it bottomed out. Remove the extensions and run the stock shocks in their factory positions.
Plus, I don't use the TF extended bumpstops on the rear, only the factory ones.
