Question Exhaust

I am a newbie. I had Borla exhaust on my '97 Mustang & I am considering it for my JK. Any Borla owners out there?

Also, do headers help JK horsepower much?

Not a borla man, but I did just order the MBRP setup they had the sales on... soon as I get it I will upload vids and pics

as for headers, so far from previous posts headers do little if anything....

Even heat coated and so on, they just are not worth the cost.

Check out the MBRP system at www.mbrp.com. I have both standard rear muffler systems or a muffler relocation for those people looking to move the muffler from the rear of the jeep up to the middle between the frame rails.

Here is a video clip of our system on our 4 door JK:

Let me know what you think. I'd be happy to answer any questions if you are interested!

That MBRP system sounds really good, throaty but not overkill on sound since it's only a V6, isn't MBRP also the company that makes the awesome rack system that ties into the tub of the jeep? I'm very interested in that exhaust since mine isn't aging well after only half a year.

A few people on here claim performance improvements with headers but most say they are useless

We do make the tubular roof racks as well! Let me know if you would like more info on the exhaust or if you would like to place an order!

I've always been under the impression that headers always make more hp, just at the higher range.
That may not be what you want on the Wrangler...

Headers by themselves on the JK ain't gonna add anything you can feel . NUTHIN. The JK already has headers on it.

Primary header tubes of different lengths and diameters will make more power at different rpm levels. Redneckjeep is correct that the exhaust manifold on the jeep is primarily and functionally the same as headers. The primary difference in what's offered with after market products is the varied tube length of the manufacturers. With the stock Y pipe being retained what you won't get are long tubes providing additional low end torque. What you will most often experience is smoother power and less dead spots with the JK headers across the rpm range but very debatable if you will experience much if any power gain.

For me a portion of the reason I installed headers was to reduce under hood heat and increase exhaust velocity by coating the headers with a heat barrier coat. My results were mixed as I did get better power through the 2-2500 rpm range, cooler under hood temperatures but have since been plagued with lean conditions. Working with the Hypertech programmer I haven't found any solution other than a serious upgrade in Octane and now run 94 on their 91 octane premium setting. Hard to say the exact amount of power that was gained as it took a long time to get it straightened out.

There is one benefit to headers. WHEN you suffer a cracked manifold and you are not under warranty (although that only applies to used nowadays) the headers are cheaper and probably won't crack again.
