MBRP for me would be the only choice.

Dual exhaust are a bad idea performance wise.

Save some frogskins and get a cooltech or woods relocation kit. The other thing is to do what redneck did, buy a magnaflow can and have the local muffler shop bend the over the axle tailpipe.

That said there is an advantage in the MBRP system if you live in a place where road salt is in use. My guess is you don't have much if any of that in Georgia.

Woods and Cooltech get great reviews... I was a little impatient yesterday and i guess I had a money burning in my pocket. I went down to the local "old school" custom exhaust place and had a new muffler installed. I put it in the same location as stock. What was I looking for... well I'm not planning on rock crawling so I didn't have to worry about beating it up... I was looking for a better sound and maybe just maybe some performance increase... I have the superchip programmer and I'm planning on adding a AFE drop in dry filter to complete my performance upgrades.

They put in on the lift... cut the stock muffler off.... we tried 4 different mufflers.. they held them on while I started the vehicle to see which one I liked the best... very nice of them to do that..

First muffler was a flo-pro.... company from Canada.. sounded the best sitting on the lift...

Second was a longer glasspack from fl-pro little higher pitched sound

Third was a shorter glasspack from flo-pro littler higher than longer but close to the same.

4th was a dynomax... mellow sound... quietest out of all of them.

So I went with the flo-pro and they told me to drive around and see if I liked... so I drove around town, interstate etc... I liked it but it was kinda loud and a little droning... I have 35's with an auto... so every time you are into the throttle you can hear it....

So I went back and they put on the dynomax... in the stock location as well... Little quieter, less droning (still some)....

Did I notice a performance increase... No

Does it sound a littler cooler... yes

Is it a little annoying inside... maybe a little.. have to get used to it..

If I had to do it again would I??? Dunno He had a flowmaster 50 but he said it's going to sound like the dynomax... he did say the flowmasters are better built and a little bigger than the dynomax.

So bottom line... I got some sound... maybe a little inside noise... and nothing I can tell on performance... be aware if you have an auto... every time your tranny does the shift thing you are going to hear your new muffler

From what I have read on the forum.. muffler may sound a little different when I put in AFE dry filter.. better I hope.

There are several members on the forum that seem to know a bunch about performance.. what to do and not to do... Me I would do Superchip, drop in perf filter and then muffler... just my opinion..

Oh... it cost me $160.00 parts and labor

Is that muffler a straight through design? If not, there's your performance problem. Also, removing as many bends in the exhaust as possible tends to pick up low end torque some. With mine, we removed two <45 degree bends in front of the muffler and two ninety degree bends. One before and one after the muffler, because of the relocation. Not real sure how much removing the one after the muffler helped performance, but it's gone. The straight through design though, is the biggest thing you can do for performance. What I wanna try next is the borla Y pipe with some high flow cats installed. I'd love to leave the cats off, but the exhaust police would find me and throw me under the jail. That's just how my luck runs.

According to some, the JK's 3.8L motor needs some backpressure to perform to it's full potential (which still isn't much). The dual exhausts, again supposedly, is too free flowing.

I have yet to see anyone really prove this. I am currently running without an exhaust since mine got ripped off on the rocks and have noticed significant torque increase, mainly because it's just a straight shot from the cats to over the axle, no bends, etc. I would assume that this is the epitome of lack of backpressure...

So hopefully, some one can explain it better than I. The bottom line is that with dual exhaust or even a single in the stock location, they'll get ripped off if you wheel hard. Mine did.

I'd definitely reccomend the MBRP or Woods exhausts. They're the best sounding that I've heard and they won't jump ship on a trail.

Check your local exhaust shop before you buy a kit. I had one in Az do mine for cheap. I have a round magnaflow race muffler relocated next to the frame rail in front of the rear axle. Others on here have done it too and I'm pretty sure were all just as happy as the folks who spend alot more on 'systems'. Anyways, goodluck
