Question Exhaust Recommendations

I’ve been planning on adding a cat-back exhaust and cold air intake to my 2dr Sahara when the weather gets warmer. Any suggestions on the intake? I am pretty set on the Airaid intake but still uncertain about which exhaust. I not looking for anything loud at all but a little sound would be nice. Previous post say the Borla would meet this however other post say bad things about Borla. What experience do you guys have with the different exhaust out on the market? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Don't waste your money on cat-back. The factory piping is already free-flowing/mandrel bent, and changing it with aftermarket won't any difference. JUst pick an muffler, and change the factory muffler. That'll probably cost you about $250 at the most. I have flowmaster on mine, and loved it. It's not droning at all on highway driving.

You should be able to find flowmaster clip here on the forum. I know there is also one clip in youtube, just type flowmaster, jk, and you'll find one

Have fun

i cant say how the sound is on the borla exhaust on the jk, heck i dont even have my jeep yet, but i do have a borla catback on my 2004 mach 1 mustang and after installing a few other brands of exhaust on my uncles stang and on my car i can say borla in the highest quality exhaust you can buy. The sound, fit, finish, ease of intallation, intructios is second to none. i know you wouldnt regret buying a borla, i really cant say i have heard anyone with my exhaust say anything bad about it on mach1 registry.com. i will say though the tips on the jk exhaust look silly. sound wise for the jeep i dont know though, some 4 and 6 cyclinder engines no matter what type of exhaust you put on them just dont sound great. the dual exhaust from volant looks preatty sharp as well. hope this helps.

i have heard the flowmaster super 40 on another members jeep and liked it... liked it so well that i am going to get one myself. however i don't expect any power boost out of it just wanting the sound.

I posted this up on another thread, and though it made sense here also. I'm selling a kit, with a True Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel Pipe. Kit is $315 plus shipping. If interested, please PM me.
This kit works on a 2 door, if you relocate the Evap Canister.

I have tested 5 mufflers in the last week. I've got video and sound for four of them. I'll post up video links as soon as I can.

I tested:
- Magnaflow 14377 14" X 4" X 9" Same side offset
- Magnaflow 10436 22" X 4" round Center in/out
- Magnaflow 11226 14" X 4" X 9" Center in/out and offset in/out
- Borla 40653 13.125" X 4" X 9.5" Center in/out and offset in/out
- Flowmaster 50 series 942554 17" X " X 9.75" Oval Same Side Offset

The following are my observations.

Both Magnaflow ovals, and the Borla sounded the same. I do not recall any difference at all. They all represent the most mellow deepest sound that I have heard on a JK.

The Flowmaster and Magnaflow round 4" both sounded very similar. Louder and and more ricey/tinnie/sharp sounding.

The Flowmaster is a very large muffler. The goal here was to see if a larger size created a deeper tone. Just the opposite turned out to be true... This muffler may be a good fit, if you wanted a louder muffler, and did not worry about clearance, or wanted to install in the stock location.

The Magnaflow and Borla with the Offset In, and Center Out would not fit in the location that I wanted to install the muffler. Both would be a good solution if you wanted to install the muffler in front of the Evap Can, on a 4 door.

Hands down the best muffler for the location where I wanted to install (just behind where the Evap Can was previously located) was the Magnaflow 14377. It has the best clearance, is well protected by the rear lower control arms and has as good a tone as any muffler that I've heard.

Picks of Magnaflow install

I'm also interested in the Flowmaster, as I don't want to drastically change my factory exhaust. Which part number did you use? Thankya.

I don't have the part number off hand, but it's the Offset-offset, Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow, 2.25" inlet-outlet. I think the pipe is actually 2.5", but 0.25" won't hurt any flow on a short run
