experience w/mile marker?
I'm looking at a MM winch for my new bumper. Anyone here have experience with them? All of the testimonials on their site suggest they are good - big surprise. How do they hold up to moisture and corrosion? Are they tough? Do they last? You know, the basics. I guess the bottom line is should I spend the extra $400 to go with a warn and have a "limited" lifetime warranty?
By the way I don't expect to use it all that much, but like anything, it has to work when I do need it.
All opinions welcome! I just hope I haven't opened the door to massive pissing contests...
Thanks.

I don't have any anecdotal stories about MM winches, but the "you get you pay for" adage seems to apply with a lot of winches... I've read other people on this very forum say that they've used some pretty beat-up MM winches reliably and regularly at work for years (don't have a link - sorry), but if you have any doubt, I'd say save yourself any potential worry and risk, and buy a brand you KNOW will work when it counts...
I've got a buddy with one on a TJ. His was not sealed at all. He had to pull it apart to clean the mud and other gunk out of the case. It is currently just an expensive bumper ornament. I don't plan on ahving to use one that much(key word being plan), but I've got a Tabor 9K(sold by Warn) that I'm going to be a lab rat for.
Well that's just it right there...I have yet to see ANY brand, regardless of price, that doesn't have numerous stories attached to it about how it failed or burned up or whatever. Poking around, I've heard quite a few stories of Warns either failing, burning up, or just not getting it done. Being a soldier, I have a feeling that mile marker got the military nod because it was the lowest bidder. And that hydraulic capability won't mean a thing for 90% of the HMMWV's I've been around since they burn up power steering pumps like a cheap hooker goes through condoms.
No offense to any cheap hookers who might post here.

I have used a 9,000 lb MM for years, through 3 Jeeps and never had a problem. It's big, kind of ugly, and did have a problem with paint peeling, but I repainted it several times and it always worked when I needed it. Just my experience.
