Default Experiment: 18.4 MPG City, on 35s (what's your best?)

After going to 35s on my 4dr with automatic trans, my MPG dropped to about 14.4 MPG on my daily, all side roads, commute. I re-geared from 3.73 to 5.13 and it went up to 14.9 MPG. (Speedometer has been re calibrated for tire size and confirmed by GPS with each change)

Today I decided to see how big an impact driving style could have. I made sure I never exceeded 2000 RPM on my commute today. I still drove about the same speed, but I accelerated much slower from lights and stop signs. It really wasn't that much different, just took about twice as long to reach top speed.

The results : 18.4 MPG

Post up with your best MPG on your modified rig. Show those mad driving skills!!!
Post your 2dr or 4dr, trans, gears, tire size and best MPG on a drive of 10+miles.

(I know someone is going to say "It's a Jeep, why do you care about mileage". Save It. This post isn't to debate that topic. I just want to know what results you can get)

I just started doing exactly what you did. Will post up my numbers later when I go through a tank or two. Prior to driving more"sensible", I was averaging about 13.6 on my 35's with 4.10's. Just brutal!

Last tank I averaged 16.8mpg with 35s, 4.10s and a 6spd. Shifting at 1500rpm around town. But city driving here is city driving, light after light, after light. So it isn't too bad. Still messing with the highway speed/rpm, I'm either going downhill or uphill here, nothing flat!

On the way back from Moab a few weeks ago, I drove from Pagosa Springs, CO to San Jon, NM (355 miles) on one tank of gas which averaged out to 17.15 MPG. That is the best I have ever done. I think the Colorado gas is better or something because here in Houston I can barely drive 300 miles on a tank. I have 35s with 5:13 gears and auto trans. I was driving 65 - 70 MPH and it is mostly down hill the whole way so maybe that is how I did it. It was kinda like being in the twilight zone... I kept thinking I should pull over and get gas but I kept looking at my gauge and I didn't need to get gas.
