Hello fellow Jeepers . I purchase FOX 2.0 front and rear shocks along with TeraFlex 2.5 Lift Kit.

had it installed at a local shop as well. Long story I never ride in the rear of me jeep since I'm always driving it ..

Long story my wife mother always complained about the ride quality and I always just assumed she was talking about my 35inch rugged tires I had on.

Nope I sat in the back seat yesterday and holly shit what a horrible ride that was, every bit of bad road was felt .


anyone had this issue and do shocks go bad? I saw while back some black substance leaking out of the right side one but didn't pay no mind to it.

tires get rotated regularly 3-5k miles.

There is a lot here to respond to...

First of all, black stuff leaking out of your shock is a bad sign likely indicating the shock needs rebuilt. The service interval for Fox 2.0 shocks is 10,000 miles, if the Jeep sees off-road use. Alternatively you may want to consider different shocks as Fox 2.0 shocks are known to ride firmer than many other shocks; however, they are also less likely to fail than cheaper shocks (e.g., Rancho Shocks) - though your experience seems to differ here given that it sounds like you have already had one fail. How many miles and wheeling trips have you put on these shocks? Even prior to rebuilding your shock(s), I would check your tire pressures. There are lots of ways to go about determining the "right" tire pressure for oversized tires: 1) the chalk test; 2) Math - see what the weight maximum of the stock tires was for your Jeep and review the factory prescribed air pressure and then look at the weight maximum of the new tires and calculate the difference and then multiply this difference by the factory prescribed air pressure to identify what PSI you should run your 35s at; or 3) Rule of Thumb - drop the pressure down to 26-30, if you have not already, and I bet your ride will improve significant as I know mine did!

 

My guess is that given jeep has a TF budget boost on it, is that those are not serviceable shocks. Basic Fox 2.0 shocks should last a long time. I had some that I had 70k+ miles on and were still good but I had moved on to something else. Also, when a shock goes bad it doesn't get more stiff, it gets less.....leading to more of a bouncy ride. You just have some stiff shocks on there and the jeep ain't a comfort vehicle. Lower that tire pressure to help cushion things like mentioned above.

 

Scott thanks for taking the time , no off road here at all , I have roughly 38k miles on my 2018 jeep jku , installed shocks at 16-18k miles can't quite remember exactly.
my tire pressure when its code has dropped upper 20s right now 32-34 normally.

 

I called 4wheel parts here in Houston and guy mention I can ship them to fox and they can maintence them for a price , but then I would have to pay for the removal and installation which doesn't make $ sense for me to do. Im going to see what the shop tells me next week 19th and if I need to purchase new ones or if its something minor of a fix .

 

I've never bought a jeep for ride quality, especially the back seat ride quality.

 

I would look into the adjustable ride fell RS9000XL, they allow you to get the ride feel you want.
AND come with a limited lifetime warranty too.

Nothing wrong with the Fox's unless they are leaking oil..they do not need to be serviced.
They do ride stiff and that's the way Fox valves them.
Want a softer ride get Bypass shocks that can be adjusted.
