OR FAB tire Carrier?
 

I've read several posts on the OR Fab Tire Carrier. Does anyone know of any similar priced, decent solutions to mounting the spare? I'm afraid if I don't get a carrier for my spare I'll be a victim of a sagging tailgate. I'm about ready to make a purchase, but I'm just not sure if a rear bumper/carrier combo would be better in the end. I've read little to no problems with the Or Fab. The other one I was looking at is the Body Armor Rear Bumper w/Tire Carrier.

I have a 35'' tire on a 16'' Procomp wheel with 1.5'' backspacing and it fits fine on my stock tire carrier. The only thing I did add was Off Camber Tire Bracket Reinforcement Brackets. You brake off the welds of the stock nuts in your tail gate and replace the single nut with a bracket that spans to holes helping to distribute the weight load. I haven't been out on the trail yet with it but so far it is holding up good. The tire just barely rubs my rear bumper when closed. But the upside it helps with a secure hold and theres virtually no rattling. And another plus is t was only $30. I might make my own bumper but this is a great sub for a tire carrier right now.

I've got my OR-Fab carrier on the way for an install in a few weeks. From what I've read on the boards (and PM'd the owners) they make a great product (with some bushing rust risk..not sure if they have addressed that yet)...

We'll see in a few weeks I suppose...

Mine is mounted on the tailgate right now and fits, I'm just worried about the weight. I have the MBRP bracket but couldn't get the welded to bust on the stock nuts. My worry is the weight on the hinges or where the gate attaches and those welds breaking. I don't feel like I wheel the jeep hard, but I can def feel a difference when I open the tailgate. If I were to ignore it and then the gate ends up getting torn up then I would be mad I didn't do anything about it earlier. I'm sure I could go a long time before anything got damaged - but that's not how my luck works.

I just read a thread last night about the AEV tire carrier mounted with the stock bumper... I guess I can add that to my options.

You wont be sorry if you go with the OR-Fab carrier. I have a 35" Toyo mounted on mine and it is rock solid. One thing to consider also is that with the OR-Fab carrier you can mount jerry cans, a high lift jack and it has a cb antenna mount. Those things are typically extra with a bumper tire mount setup

I agree the OR Fab tire carrier is the way to go. For the price you can't beat the quality and performance of this carrier. I am picky and I have ZERO complaints about this product. I too have a 35" Pro Comp MT Extreme with Pro Comp series 52 rims 4.5 Backspacing. fits rock solid, not wiggle or loose feeling of wheel or carrier.

the bonus of being able to mount two jerry cans and a Highlift Jack and the included CB antena mount is just a bonus.

Yes install is a slight pain but don't let this stop you. 5 hours and you are done and forever happy.

Plus it looks plain ole bad ass.

I like my OrFab carrier, but I am disappointed with the rust on the bushing spacers they use on the bracket that mounts to my Jeep. Between the rusted stock muffler and the rusted busings, my 1 year old Jeep looks much older than it is. I am planning when I have the time to take them off and paint the bushings black that it will look better. The carrier is great but I wish they would resolve the bushings rusting.

I think you will be very happy with the OR-Fab carrier. Not sure why some have minor rust issues and others do not but I have no rust on mine and it has been on there since Sept of 08!!
