or fab tire carrier issues... please help
Mine came with a small plate that sticks to the tail gate where the carrier hits. And you have to adjust the washers at the hinge to get it where you want it. Without a tire mine lined up at top of the landing block.
you also need to set the "pre-load". take tire off carrier and the carrier should above the landing block. (it should NOT be parallel to the bumper. it should be angled slighting up hill).
It takes some adjustment for sure. A couple of things. Make sure you have your spacers and washers correct per the instructions;
1). You need to sand the end of the rubber bumper that sits against the tailgate flat. This was in my instructions and its crucial to prevent the bumper (which comes coned shaped) from denting your tailgate.
2). You need to have the tire off. Loosen all of the bolts for the hinges but one. That one remaining bolt only leave it slightly tightened. I found the bottom hinge bolt closest to the passenger side to work the best for this. It lets you "pivot" the carrier to get it aligned.
3). Make sure you have the tailgate properly shimmed per the instructions since you do have all of the tailgate bolts loose.
4). Make sure you account for the preload of the tire, I made mine to where it was basically about 1/8" higher than the latch plate.
5). Tighten the upper hinge bolt closet to the passenger side (through the slit in the bracket) enough to snug it.
6). Check the alignment again. If it's good (aligned for preload) then you can open the tire carrier and tighten the two bolts (on the upper and lower hinges) closer to the drivers side to where they are tight.
7). Check alignment again with preload and repeat steps if needed.
8). Load the tire and double check the alignment now loaded. If you guessed your preload well this should be pretty close.
9). If alignment is good with the tire on, tighten the passenger side bolts (upper and lower hinges) through the slit in the hinder bracket completely.
Essentially you're using the driver side bolts to get it aligned. Don't tighten the passenger side bolts until you have it all aligned with a tire on it. It can hold the tire fine with the four driver side bolts tightened. One common problem is repeated tightening and loosening of the passenger side bolts through the hinge bracket slit. A box wrench will eventually slip and round the corners on those bolts and make ever really tightening them impossible.
