These tires are commonly known for this in my area. You see them on a lot of vehicles around here. I had them and made it almost 40K miles with no issues, but I've known guys who had this same problem.

These turned out to be much quieter than BFG MTs. Seven ply tread, 3 ply sidewall, E load rated, etc. I like the tread, and they performed great on the trail, for all except the steepest rocky shelves where ATs and wider tires give more dry traction.
235/85r16's on stock steelies:
Steering and cornering is good, and a long trip yesterday yielded 17.9 mpg - I got <16mpg with BFG MTs and get almost 21 mpg with the stock 29" 225/75r16 Wranglers. Time will tell on wear qualities.
