Finding the right security nut - apparently not good with metric
Hello,
So last night someone jacked my light bar and woke up this morning to notice the top of my windshield look rather bare with my mounts sticking up and nothing in between them. I took my Lightforce 240's inside and not putting either light back on until its a bit more secure. The windshield lights are still on as they were 40 bucks. Hopefully some idiot doesn't steal them too. Live in a decent neighborhood outside the city so we don't usually get crime or vandalism so I've never worried about it.
Anyways... I was looking at security nuts online and came across a few options. I am looking for 5 (
) sets to secure everything... which judging by the prices looks rather crazy.
The lightforce ones which look like Baddi Nut rip offs and not any cheaper, seem to be the most secure option as they don't have just one combination which is ideal.

And then there is this option... Although it doesn't look like they ship to Canada. But 4/5 sets of Lighforce ones is 150-200 with shipping. And these things are $5.25 for a pack of five
But in theory with how easy they are to install, couldn't a theft just toss one of these on too and unscrew it again?

Then this to secure the lightbar/a pillar lights bracket to the Jeep.
Light Locks Security Nuts and Bolts from ICI (Compatible For Jeep Wrangler A-Pillar Factory Bolts)
But maybe its just the paranoid side of me (now)... aren't tamper resistant torx rather common and still easy to jack?
And then lastly the most important question... These sizes, M10 seems to be the most common for all these light bar security nuts and such and even the Lightforce lists their lights as taking M10's but! I measured the hole and it is only 10mm which means it would be closer to an M8... but all the options for the overpriced light security nuts are M10 and M12. I checked all the diameter of the bolt (including the threads) and then also checked the diameter of the holes. Apparently from my googling M10 is suppose to be 12mm and M12 is 14mm

And I believe I figured out the M10/M12 portion. I read the hole diameter has to be the width but turns out the thread diameter is the 10mm for M10.. so I believe all mine are M10! One problem solved.
That sucks that they stole your light. I live at an apt complex that is well light and still have people breaking into cars.
On my light bar what I did was I bought the security nuts with key from Carolina metal masters and fabricated it accept a 5/16" bolt.

I drilled out the nut and tapped it. Took me a whole 30 minutes to do both.

After I drilled out the end cap for the 5/16" bolt this is what I came up with.

I did run into an issue with the bolt being longer than it should have but I knew that was going to happen. Just took a Dremel with a cut off wheel and took off little by little.
