Default finding the truth

Ok so I've been doing a ton of research but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Can you really fit 35s without a lift?

I have seen peoples claims and I am very interested. Most people say you need 2+ inches, but for me it's either an all inclusive parts lift or it's none at all. I have a 2010 Unlimited and it has about 10k miles on it. All the suspension parts are still in excellent condition and I don't see a need to replace them if I don't have to.

I believe I read somewhere that you'd have to modify that nasty little pinch seam in the back to get 35s in there. That's fine with me, I hate the way that pinch seam sits so ominously close to my tires.

Anyway I'm curious to find out what it takes and if it's really possible. Anyone have any links proving or disproving this?

In a magazine I read (probably JP magazine) they did 35's with bushwackers and it did rub and I beleive it was in the back. The rubbing was slight but it was there. I am not sure if they were on the stock rims or aftermarkets or if they ran wheel spacers spacers.

With flat flares it is possible by triming pinch seam and rubi rock rail (if equiped)

Some people run 37s with only 2.5'' lift and flat flare so you should be fine by cutting your flares or buying flat ones, maybe you will need to add 1'' body lift if you want to flex.

This link is to how to run 37s with 2.5'' lift, it should help ya.

I guess we all need to know, are you talking about rubbing while going over the speed bump in the mall parking lot or hitting a whoopdee doo at 30 mph or .05 miles an hour climbing boulders.

I did 6" lift with 37" tires and I rub front and back. I was told that the 35 would fit with 3" lift and not rub. But I do not know how they were gauging it.

That is the exact answer I ( and many others) were looking for. My plan is to go this route until I can afford the lift I want.

I have the stock, non rubicon gears. Since the tires are going to provide a lot more work for the Jeep I was thinking of regearing. Any thoughts?

A guy in my club was able to get 35's without a lift. He did trim his flares, bumper and few other things...

Here is what he had to do

"We got it pretty well stuffed. The bump stops were being compressed. I'm sure that under the right circumstance he may get a little more compression in the bump stops. But, there is still some room front and back. He took out the inner fender skirts in the rear and trimmed the flares. The front he trimmed out the inner skirt leaving the section protecting the motor simular to what I did when I installed my Xenon flares. He had rubbing on the front bumper last night.... but not any more. Sawsalls are great"

And here is a pic of him off-road.

One thing you might want to also keep in mind is that the size of a "35" varies between tires. One "35" might fit, while others will rub everywhere. My suggestion is find what you want, then find what the true tire height is (I believe there is a thread dedicated to that). You might be surprised at the differences.

I ran 35's with Bushwacker flats and no lift. It worked great. 2" extended rear bumpstops from terraflex (2 minute install), and 4.75 bs wheels.

I got minor frame rub up front, but that would have been an easy fix with either 4.5 bs wheels or a few washers on the steering stops.

You'll need to ditch the front airdam, but shouldn't need to cut your bumper.

Running 35's on 4.10 gears with a 6 speed is ok, but when you get into hills it kinda sucks. I'm waiting for $$ to instal an arb air locker in the back before I put in my 4.88's.

Max articulation with my setup. Hard on both front and rear bumpstops.
