First Jk Rubicon Re-geared
Well it is done. The first JK Rubicon was regeared yesterday. Thanks to Mel at Off-Road Evolution in Fulerton, CA for his hard work.
Install went really well and we couldn't be happier. All Superior Axle & Gear customers will be riding the trails this spring and summer without worrying that they don't have enough gear.
We put 4.88's in a 4 door w/ 35's. WOW the vehicle actually had guts again.
Thanks to all my guy's and gals for the hard work. It paid off!

I'm not there to do it, so go ahead and give yourself a nice pat on the back!
what is the point of changing gears? i read alot about this when tire changes are mentioned. is this a valid substitute for changing to a bigger axle? or just a cheap fix? what does this mod do in general? sorry for the newb questions. i am just trying to learn more about this jeeping world. thanks for your patience with me guys.
dgreesaboveu......regearing helps to compensate for bigger wheels.
The axle ratio, and transmission are designed to have a certain output with a certain size of wheel. Once you change that wheel, throws everything off.
So the bigger the wheel, the lower the gear (higher numbers) such as having a 35" tire, you would want 4:88 or 5:13. Thats all thats available now. 4:88 seems to be optimal for most people.
If you kept stock tires and changed gears to let say 4:88, you would have better towing capabilities. Your top end speed would be less, but overall power would be there. Make sense? Trust me, it isn't that cheap of a fix.

I saw the Jeep on the Rack at Off Road Evolution, last night. This guy can really do a lot of projects and gets he them done fast. Looking forward to getting my axels installed. I did not know that Superior makes axels, gears for Dynatrac.

man i totally understand that! thanks cesar. so kinda helps with torque? right?
Are the ring and pinion for the JK D44 the same as all the other D44? I am not new to regearing just wondering because it said "Next Generation Dana 44".. I know that the gears for the Libby D30A are different then for a regular D30 say out of TJ or a YJ... Because of the aluminum housing the Libby has..
Just wondering..

Hey Mike, how beefy are the 4.88s compared to the 4.10s? Can you show us some pictures of the old pinions next to new ones? Any worries on strength? Especially for the D30?
