fitting 40's question
I am running 35's right now with just flat fenders. I had my mind set on swapping to 37's, 4.88 gears, and doing a 3.5 AEV lifts. I am planning on trimming the pinch welds in front of the rear tires either way. But the more pictures I see with 40's, the more I want them. If I ran the 4.5 AEV lift, trimmed the pinch welds and flat fenders, could I do 40's. I really just dont want a ton of lift. I will probably be on the road 80-90% of the time. The Jeep isnt my dd, even tho it will get drove a lot.

your right, I just keep seeing how good they look that way. I know what I should do, just having a hard time telling myself that. I have wanted another jeep to play with sinse my first one back in high school. Never had the money to do it then, now I can. I would like to go off road more, but with my work and stuff, just keeps me to tied up. I have thought about doing it up to show off some of our work here at the shop. We do mostly paint and body, but have done lifts and stuff. I dunno.
If you plan on going offroad and not swapping axles then stay with 37's. What axles do you have now? A Dana 30 will not last with 40's and the Dana 44 won't last to much longer either unless you put every upgrade available into them, then it's just not that cost effective to do.
Just consider what it takes to run 40s without breaking parts: 40s need at least a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, otherwise you bend or break wheel studs. The stock front axle will bend the tube and/or bend the Cs. A minimum of 5.38 gears. Brake mods, big bore master, front rotors, dual piston calipers, etc. or they don't stop very well. And lastly, JK steering is bad enough with 35" tires, put a set of 40s on and good luck. Trust me, I've been through it. Do it right or stay with 37s or smaller.

yeah, im going to work on getting the 37's for now. Then I might start doing the brakes and stuff little by little. By the time I get all the "little" things done, should be ready for new tires. Wanna throw a 5.3 or 6.2 in it. One day..... Good thing Jeeps never get old, 10-20 years later, they make you feel like a teenager again
