Default Fitting tire chains

I've never sized chains and put them on a mud tire. I think I've got it a tight as can be after several iterations of cutting but just want to get confirmation from someone who has ran chains on an aggressive mud tire. It's certainly more challenging to get a good fit on a 36" Irok than a garden tractor because of the enormous lugs... These chains don't have cam locks.

How much slack is too much slack?
I can lift the chain about an inch off the tire and fit my hand flat between the chain and the tire. After grinding off several links this is the best i could do. giant irok lugs make it a challenge...

Never installed on mud tires but that seems like to much slack.. but then again I have limited experience with chains... it seems like when I did use them I had to get them pretty tight as they loosened up some while driving. I also used bailing wire to tie down the extra chain or it would come loose and bang the wheel well.... not good..
I'm interested in responses..

I use chains a lot and this is definitely to loose. You should not be able to get your hand underneath at all.

What kind of chains are they? I usually get the V-bar with Cams then use the star bungees to secure them more.

Air down, get chains tight as you can, then air up.

Some pics. Where do you buy spider bungees?
