Default Flat tow question

Can you, and does anyone flat tow their Jeep by using the shackle mounts on bumpers? A lot of companies say not to use that as a tow point. Isn't that the strongest point? Thought about making new ends for my Blue Ox Tow bar when I get a new bumper to fit around the shackle mounts and put a pin through that. Does anyone do this?

I do it and it seems to work just fine. I thought the same thing as you about the shackle brackets being a strong point. My tow bar is made by Warrior and they have D-Ring brackets that are sold separately.

Cool thanks. Yeah you think that if you winch from those points you could flat tow from there.

Looks like those will fit the end of my Blue Ox tow bar as well. Thanks

Roadmaster sells towbar attachment brackets that are made to replace the D-rings on the Rugged Ridge bumper. Any bumper that you can winch with can certainly be used for flat towing. I did it for thousands of miles.
