Looking to flat tow my JK. Anybody found a set of brackets for the stock bumper or a way to attach them to the frame? I found this http://www.wyckoffchryslerparts.com/20jewrcotowb.html but $370 seems like a lot of cash for a couple bars, loops and wires.

Both Roadmaster and Blue Ox make brackets now.

I ended up going with the Mopar one since the Roadmaster one will not work on a Rubicon and the Blue Ox one really looks ugly and is drastically in the way for off roading.

 

jdrogers, Are you using a break system? Is there a wiring harness up front to plug into or did you have to splice into misc wires? I've only had my jeep for a week (since Monday night) and haven't had any daylight to play under the hood.

Yes I will be using a brake system. I have a Unified Tow Brake from US Gear that I had previously installed on my 2004 Rubicon. I have not installed it on the JK yet. Won't get the brake system installed until sometime in January.

There is no "plug" in the front for wiring the tail lights. Some people like to run wires back to the tail light assemblies and add another socket and light bulb to the existing assemblies but it doesn't look like there is room on the JK.

For the tail lights I am going to hook into the JK wiring using diodes. This is how I did it on my 2004. On the JK it looks to be fairly easy based on the new way the JK is wired. All of the wiring for each light comes from the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) which is right in front of the battery. All of the tail lights wires go from this module through the passenger side of the firewall and down the passenger side of the body. There is a big connector below the instrument panel on the passenger side with the needed circuits. I plan on tapping into the tail light circuits here. There should be plenty of room for the diodes behind the dash there and since it's inside they won't get wet so they don't have to be sealed.

Could you post some pics of the Mopar tow bar you went with or post a link. Also, how much did it cost. I too think that the Blue Ox version is not the way to go. Especially on a Rubicon.

I was also wondering if some of the aftermarket bumpers would work with some of the Blue Ox tow gear. Where most people would have the tow rings looks similar to some of the Blue Ox tow bar hook ups. Any thoughts?

 

I, too, am hoping I can hook up a Blue Ox tow bar to the front of an aftermarket front bumper such as the AEV bumper. All I need now is a JK to start doing some measuring...

Could you help us out on this Eddie? You are the only one that I know that has an aftermarket bumper to pull some measurements. The tow loops on the Warn bumper look very similar to my buddies tow loops on his sport trac (it's the bracket made by Blue Ox for the Ford Sport Trac). He uses the Blue Ox tow gear with it. That's what gave me the idea. I would think that I could find out the model number on his tow gear and order that to hook up to an aftermarket bumper.

Crazy idea? Any help would be appreciated.
