Default Flat Towing a JK with a JK

I have a 4 door Rubicon with 4.88 gears, and now my wife has a 4 door X with 4.10s.

I would like to tow her jeep with mine. Has anyone flat towed a 4 door jk with a 4 door jk?

Ok, I know this is an old post, but since no one replied I figure I am the first person to try this. So I will update this tread with my experience, encase someone else wants to try it in the future.

At this point I have picked up the Currie Mounting Plate and installed it on the jeep being towed. After I get the wiring complete, I will hook up everything and post pictures.

The unlimited has a 3500lb towing capacity.

The unlimited has an apprx curb weight of 4000lbs.

My jeep with mods is over 5000lbs.

Do the math.

Here are the specs to check for yourself from Jeep.

only problem is that you are towing something twice the rated capacity but others have towed heavier loads. how far are you towing?

The Wranglers have a 3500lb tow capacity for a reason. Can it pull more than that depending on how it's equipped, as evidenced, people have. Does it mean they're doing so safely, well no. There is the stress and strain and additional abuse on the drivetrain. Then of course there is addtional weight you're pulling above and beyond the recommended weight that will negatively affect the braking characteristics of your vehicle.

Of course there may be some which will disagree with what I'm saying, but remember this, it's an opinion based on the information the manufacturer is providing.

It comes down to just because you can doesn't mean you should and just because someone else has done it does not make it right.

i have thought about this and i still cant see what the point is to flat tow the second jeep with the other jeep unless she is flying somwhere and u take the jeeps to meet her.

would u mind explaining the reasoning for this????????

if u have the thinking of trying to save gas by flat towing her jeep, then think again. the wear and tear and the power usage on ur engine will not be worth it.

It was scary enough towing my 3500lb trailer WITH trailer brakes... can't imagine towing something heavier without the brakes.

You are gonna put a lot of strain on your JK towing that load....and go through more fuel than driving both rigs. Hope you have a good tranny cooler.

One thing that is funny about the 2008 Wrangler sales catalog
is a picture of a unlimited pulling a CJ5 on a tandem axle trailer.
I would think this is way over 3500 lbs.
