Default Flatfenders as an alternative to a lift?

i have 33" tires on stock suspension right now. i love the look of flat fenders. i have heard that at full flex 33" will rub with no lift. are flatfenders an alternative route? or am i still going to need a lift.

doing a 2.5" bb with flat fenders would look very awkward on 33"s. so it will have to be one or the other. im really hoping i can just run flat fenders

With 33's, you'll be fine with just the flats. I'm doing something similar. I've got 33.5" tires right now, with Xenon narrow flat fenders and a Teraflex Leveling Kit. I wanted to keep the center of gravity low, and I'll eventually go with 35's when my tires wear out, but I think it looks fine as-is for the time being:

You can also look at some of the Planman's posts. He's the king of low lifts and big tires!

I think flat fenders with no lift and big tires is bad ass, like some 35's on it.

I'm considering doing this as well in a year or two. From what I understand, with some wheel backspacing and minor triming of the pinch seam, you can run 35's. Plus, the thought of my Jeep getting death wobble because it was lifted while my wife is driving it terrifies me. I'm going to do flats for sure, but not sure about a lift.

If you are just going for 'the look' then flatties will do the trick. However the whole point of the lift is not just so you can fit bigger tires but added flex and GC over obstacles. Do what fits your style of Jeep'n.

But if your worried about rubbing then it sounds like you might be the type that gets out and wheels so take you money and put it towards a proper first.

I have a 2 inch spacer lift, chopped fenders, and 35s and I think my jeep needs more lift (Aesthetically not performance wise). Ill probably put a real 2.5 spring lift next month when I buy a set of new tires.

Here is a picture on my Jeep with stock fenders that I cut (cost 0$ and there is step by step on this forum on how to do this) with 35". I just had to take some love to the seam in the rear but over all it was fine. I now have a lift but only because I bought it on CL for 200 $ (4" superlift). Would not buy the plastic flat fenders if u plan on going off road on tuff trails (see threads on regrets, have seen complants on these idems). They crack easy and very $. If u do mild wheeling then they will do fine (they look great). I am saving for tube fenders but I can see my JK leaning on some rocks at some point. People ask me all the time where I got my fenders and I tell them they r stock I just cut them. Over all it is up to you. I would sugest that you figure out when all said and done what to you want your JK to do, look like and cost. That way you could get it done the 1st time and not go thought 50 different kinds of lifts...

You built those fenders?? Nice work!! OP, I added BW flatties with TF 2.5 coil lift and I could fit 37s now for sure.

I wanna say it was a past JP article but they did the flat fenders and no lift combo and ran 35's with no problem. Just had to adjust the steering stops.
