Front axle issue.
Good day all.
Looking for a little advice before returning to the shop. I had a front axle installed and seemto be having an issue after just a few times utilizing 4 wheel drive. Locker not engaged. When under load, in 4wd, the right front axle is binding. I can also hear a whirring sound. Similar to a bad wheel hub bearing. When I switch back to 2wd the axle still binds until I stop and reverse a little. The axle if it matters is a Danatrac Prorock 44 with E-locker.
Am I missing something or is this definitely a shop issue?
Thanks for any input.

"Locker not engaged" has two meanings 1. It won't engage anymore or 2. it was not engaged when describing the issues. Either way it sounds like the axle was slightly over length and could be pushing on the components inside. It may be grinding the internal components away and doing other damage. Do you have locking hubs? If so, my advice, unlock and get it back to the shop.
Did the shop source the axle and install it, or did you bring them an axle and they simply popped it under for you? There in will lie the answer IMO. If they sourced the axle and installed it, then it will be up to them to help hammer it out regardless of if an install issue or parts issue. Did that axle come fully assembled, or was it just a housing and they installed the internals? the whirling to me sounds like a pinion bearing.
Axle was supplied and installed by the shop. I haven't engaged lockers other than a driveway functionality test. I couldn't get any signs of the issue then. Only when in 4wd driving.
Thanks for replies. Planning on getting it back to the shop. 5 times in 4wd. Last 2to verify something was wrong.

Y, if they supplied the axle and did the work, I would certainly be going back cuz it should be up to them to help resolve it. That is the big benefit of letting the shop supply everything. There is no door left open to say something like "hey, you supplied the part so we can't help with that." Sometimes you might not get the rock-bottom price you can find elsewhere on the part, but you get a bit more security, and every now and then that pays off. Best of luck. Please post an update cuz I'm curious what the issue turns out to be.
