front axle swap
i have an 07 sahara unlimited with front d30 axle and a rear d44 with anti-spin. I'm thinking of changing the front axle to a d44 with either anti-spin or some type of detoit locker. Has anyone have some type of setup like this. Is it worth it, and would it work.
Yeah it'll work, but are you really gonna wheel hard enough to justify a 3000 dollar front axle? The prices have doubled. Hell, for less than half that, you can make your D30 bullitproof. That's what I'd. Hell, it's what I'm GONNA do.
I also seen on northridge4x4 that there is an Aussie locker for Dana30 for a good price.

No real writeup needed per say. Just add the EVO "C" gussets, gusset the axle tubes IF you want and add some kinda locker and chromemoly axles and it's a did deal. That will actually end up a good bit stronger than a D44. The "C" gussets are under a hun, the locker, if you go with the aussie is like 279 and the axles are under 700 for the pair. Call David at Northridge. He can fix you up.
You don't want a Detroit Locker on your front axle. You can get by with one in the rear but you'll regret it on the trail. There is a reason selectable lockers are the choice of most people.
If you truss and tube the D30. Gusset the C's. Add an ARB or Eaton E-Locker. Chromoly shafts. You'll have a stout D30.
Plus, not entirely sure if it works on the JK D30, but Reid Racing makes a D30/D44 hybrid that uses D44 outer shafts plus has high steer knuckles. Fabrication definitely needed.

Air lockers sounds good. but i would hate to have a failure on the trails. My prefference would be anti-spin in the front just like the rear. Bulletproof, no user input, always ready for action. I like the idea of beefing up the d30.

ANYTHING can fail on the trail. There are a lot of air lockers out there that have been running for years with no problems. You'll never hear from those folks and I'll bet there are many more of them than those who have problems. You're living in the land of ice and snow. You really want to be able to turn that front off when you're on the slick roads.
