Default front bumper powdercoat problems

Ok so I own a 3-hoop stinger made by Olympic 4x4. It's been on my JK for about 10 months. The powdercoat has started to bubble pretty bad and it's rusted in multiple places. I e-mail Olympic to see if this is covered by them or if anything can be done. I wait about a week and never get a response so I call them. The lady then gives me another e-mail address so I e-mail it and no response. Finally I e-mail someone else on their website and get a response. He tells me that they will re-powdercoat it, but I will have to pay for the back and forth shipping.

I am just wondering if companies usually make you pay for shipping or if they will cover it? Seems to me that they should cover it because I haven't had it long. Just wanted to get some opinions since I've never had this problem before. Thanks guys!

For the same price as shipping you can probably have it done locally.

If it was a small part like taillamp guards or something they should do it gratis at least with free shipping back to you. But shipping a bumper is a considerable expense, as well as packing it for return shipping. In a perfect world, they should cover it for less than a year old; but I understand why they don't want to.

On a slightly different note, my ARB front bumper with smooth powdercoat started to flake in places after about a year. Not flake totally, but got lighter in places. When it gets cooler outside I'm going to mask and rustoleum the entire thing while on the Jeep. Now it's almost 3 years old and needs touch-up in many different places.

I will not be shipping the bumper out there, trust me! That would be pointless seeing as how shipping that huge thing from Alabama to California and back would be dumb. That's why I'm kinda frustrated that they'd make me pay for the shipping. I understand that they'd powdercoat it for free, but what's the point when I can just get it powdercoated locally?

Ugh

I tink they should cover it and pay for the freight but good luck with that.

Is it a smooth powder coat or the wrinkle finish? I just put on a front bumper. During shipping the edges of the "pre-runner type" guard punched through the box and as a result lost all the finish in a couple of spots. I cleaned and then sprayed it with bedliner.........can't tell that from the factory powder coat and looks like new. If the spots arent huge you may give it a try. $7.99 a can vs shipping costs both ways.

It's the wrinkle. I know I could just go over with a bedliner rattle can, but it's just the fact of the matter. I paid for a product and wanted it the way it was. Yes, I understand that eventually the powdercoat will not be like it was the day I got it, but I don't want to have to rattle can it. I'd like the company I bought it from to back their products up and have better customer service. But oh well what can ya do

I understand completely. If you can get someone on the phone you may have beter luck getting them to pay for the freight. Everything is negotiable. It's just too easy to say NO via email........I deal with this everyday. But IF you dont have an luck it would be a shame to pay freight equal to probably 1/3 - 1/2 the cost of a new bumper (if you have the one I think)............that you can buy somewhere on line with free shipping.

Very frustrating and I agree with you. Too bad the manufacturer doesn't!!

It sucks that it's flaking, but there are some easier solutions as others have said, sand it down and re spray it yourself and put the money towards other stuff. Nobody's gonna know the difference and it's really easy to touch up after wards.

Thanks for your input guys! I will end up spraying and fixing it myself, I just wish the company would be more customer-friendly and stand behind their product.
