Default Front D44 ARB Lockers

Anyone put an ARB Locker in their front D44 yet? We're having some carrier bearing issues and could use some advice.

Thanks

Well,

I think that 99% of the people that have a Dana 44 front already have a front locker and don't want to switch it out yet to another one....

Which makes me ask why are you switching to an ARB?

ARB does not make a locker for the front of a Dana 44 yet.

Its because of the spline count though. Otherwise the ring gear bolt holes could be drilled for the larger ring gear bolts.

If you bought different axles could you get it to work? I found a place that sells the new D44 housing and have been toying with the idea to have one built with an ARB.

No that is not true.

The bearings are not the same.

Do you know of anybody who does? Thinking of having a D$$ built soon and I'm debating on keeping the factory locker or going to something else. Ideally it'll be a switchable locker like an ARB,OX, Ected, etc.

Speaking of which, how long before you guys start offering custom-built JK axles? You mentioned something about it in another thread recently. A ball park time estimate is fine, I'm still in the brainstorming stages.

Why are the carrier bearings different for the front than the rear?

The pinion bearing is different making a JK housing incompatible with regular D44 ring and pinion. The front jk Rubicon D44 has 30 spline axles which isn't the issue. Apparently, Crappler used different carrier bearings on the front rubi D44s than they did the rear X D44s.

Then again, apparently the carrier bearings are the same. The Superior Gear Super JK-R kit has a 35-spline ARB and axles for the rear that will work in either the Rubi or Sahara/X Dana 44. The idea is to move the rear rubi locker to the front along with 32 spline inner alloy axles which upgrades the front from 30 to 32 splines.

Here is an article in FourWheeler: fourwheeler.com/projectbuild/129_0710_project_2007_jeep_wrangler_rubicon_axles/index.html

since the D44 Ected has been installed in an X with a D44 and the Rear rubi 44 is supposed to fit the front rubi, it would seem that the carrier bearings for all 3 JK D44s are the same.

Go hear for a writeup on the Ected in a D44 (and D30) install. 4wheelerssupply.com/jkbuildup/category/installs/
